Cast

Shin Ha-kyun

Shin Ha-kyun will be playing the veteran detective Lee Do-sik, once famed for his genius detective cases and now burdened in a mundane job. With a serial killer returning after twenty years with whom Lee Do-sik shares some history and a new detective transferred to the police station Manyang who will be acting as his new boss, events start to stir up the ordinary life of Lee Do-sik. The tension between the lead cast serves as an extra edge to the dramatic storyline.

Shin Ha Kyun opened up about his acting in 'Beyond Evil' talking about the complex character that he is playing. The 'Less Than Evil' star stated, “Lee Dong-shik is a character who couldn’t help but go out of his mind due to his overflowing sorrow. However, he goes about solving cases according to his own method. He can appear to be sentimental, but he’s more rational than anyone else, and he can appear cold, but he has a warm heart. I’m trying my best to portray the contrast between his external and internal selves. I was deeply impressed by the script, which digs deep into human psychology. It’s an exciting project where I’m always interested to see what happens next episode", Soompi reported.

Shin Ha-kyun, the 46-year-old South Korean actor has won over ten awards for his critically acclaimed films and television series including ‘Joint Security Area’ (2000), ‘Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance’ (2002), ‘Save the Green Planet!’ (2003), and ‘Welcome to Dongmakgol’ (2005), ‘Mr. Back’, ‘Soul Mechanic’, ‘Less Than Evil’, and more.

Yen Jin-goo

Yen Jin-goo will play the role of a young, talented detective Han Joo-won who has been transferred to a new police station where a serial killer emerges after twenty years. The young detective Han Joo-won is regarded as an elite officer as his father is the next possible candidate for National Police Agency’s next chief. Despite having a spectacular record as a detective, Han Joo-won also holds a secret that might disrupt more if it comes out in the open.

The 'Hotel Del Luna' star talked about the character he plays in length stating, “I was intrigued at how the characters are intertwined in various relationships. It’s a drama in which you’re curious about what comes next with every partial reveal of the truth. I was also attracted to how the characters engage in psychological warfare without revealing their true selves. Han Joo Won seems like a rational and cold person on the outside, but in reality, he’s moved by his emotions. He keeps a tight check on his emotions because he believes himself to be rational. It’s a character who is different from the roles I’ve played before. I think I’ll be able to show a new side of myself.”

Yen Jin-goo started his acting career as a child actor and the 23-year-old ‘The Crowned Clown’ star has already won a number of critically acclaimed awards for his iconic roles. Some of his most notable work includes films like ‘Shoot Me in the Heart’ (2015), ‘The Long Way Home’ (2015), and ‘Warriors of the Dawn’ and K-dramas, ‘Orange Marmalade’ (2015), ‘The Royal Gambler’ (2016), ‘Circle’ (2017), ‘Reunited Worlds’ (2017), ‘The Crowned Clown’ (2019), ‘My Absolute Boyfriend’ (2019) and ‘Hotel Del Luna’ (2019). Recently, Yen Jin Goo talked to GQ Korea about his acting and fame before the fame of 'Hotel Del Luna' and 'The Crowned Clown'. He said, "Before, I was in a slump that wasn’t quite a slump. I listened and received praise while continuing to work, but I wasn’t satisfied with myself because I had no choice but to get help from the director and seniors," Koreaboo reported.

The supporting cast of the film includes Choi Sung-eum as Yoo Jae-yi, known as the ‘Master of Knife’ and the owner of Manyang Butcher Shop, Choi Dae-hoon as Park Jung-je who is Lee Dong-sik's best friend and the Lieutenant of the investigation support team at Munju Police Station, Chun Ho-jin as Nam Sang-bae, the soon-to-retire chief of Manyang Police Substation and more.
