LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ben Feigin, the executive producer of the television sitcom 'Schitt's Creek', reportedly died at the age of 47. Feigin, who also contributed to 'The West Wing' and 'Friends', died on Monday, October 24, 2022, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. His death was confirmed by both his wife's current and his previous employer United Talent Agency, according to Variety.

According to The Sun, Feigin was the executive producer of 'Schitt's Creek' and a major contributor to the development and introduction of the show. A source reportedly claimed that he was the brains behind a number of the show's intriguing marketing schemes. He apparently came up with the show’s top-grossing international tour with LiveNation, and also worked to get the Netflix documentary 'Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt's Creek Farewell'.

Feigin, who is the founder and CEO of the production company Equation Unlimited LLC, executively produced all six seasons of 'Schitt's Creek' including Season 6, which garnered nine 2020 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series for Feigin.

Feigin received a nomination for a 2020 Golden Globe Award and went on to win it in 2021 for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Comedy. Along with the Netflix documentary 'Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt's Creek Farewell', Feigin was also in charge of the show's international Live Nation tour. The final season of the series, which aired from 2015 to 2020, earned the producer an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Who was Ben Feigin?

Feigin was raised in Maryland and attended the University of California, Santa Barbara. His career started with Warner Bros and then he left to work for other companies like William Morris and UTA. Then he returned to Warner Bros and oversaw shows such as 'Friends', 'The West Wing' and 'ER'. Additionally, he was the creator and CEO of the production business called Equation Unlimited, LLC. 

Tributes to the late producer have begun to surface in social media. "My very first friend, Ben Feigin, died Monday. The world knew him as an Emmy-award-winning executive producer of Schitt’s Creek and a creative genius. I will never forget our countless one-on-one baseball games. His memory is a blessing," tweeted author Jonathan Allen.

"Ben loved comedy, and he brought laughter to millions upon millions of people across the world. I can’t think of a greater way to help repair a broken world," he added.



 

In honor of Feigin's memory, donations can be made to Stand Up To Cancer, the Ben Feigin Pancreatic Research Fund. He is survived by his wife Heidi and his daughter Ellie, aged 11.
