The film will be written and directed by Ari Aster, who is known for making blockbuster movies such as ‘Hereditary’ and ‘Midsommar’. Even though all the other details have been kept under wraps, the movie might be related to Aster’s short film ‘Beau’ that was released in 2011. Also, it is worth noticing that the filmmaker’s upcoming film is not going to be a horror film.
The movie’s first look come just a couple of days after Todd Phillips unveiled the first image from the sequel, ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’. In the image, Phoenix’s character Arthur can be seen sitting topless on a chair and getting a shave. The sequel to the 2019 film will come out in 2024 and sees Lady Gaga playing the role of Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn. It will be a musical.
The first ‘Joker’ movie turned out to be a huge hit and became the first-ever R-rated movie to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office. The movie received 11 nominations at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and Phoenix went on to win Best Actor for his portrayal of the Clown Prince of Gotham.
As far as A24 is concerned, the production house is creating a lot of buzz as the awards season progresses. Movies such as ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘The Whale’ continue to rack up nominations at several awards ceremonies, including Critics Choice and Golden Globes. It will be interesting to see how many awards A24 can garner in the upcoming awards season.
'Beau is Afraid' is scheduled to hit theatres in 2023.
