'Batman/Catwoman' writer Tom King teases Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle's first child in DC comics' main universe

It looks like there's going to be a new Wayne (or Kyle?) on the block in Gotham City. Writer Tom King has released new art by Mikel Janin and Jordie Bellaire, ostensibly for an upcoming 'Batman' story, featuring a pregnant Selina Kyle, which suggests Batman might finally become a father in the traditional way.

Just so we're clear, Bruce Wayne has raised a number of children including his own son Damian but actually being around for a pregnancy is going to be a new experience for the Dark Knight, at least in the main DC Comics universe.

Back in 1977, the Earth-2 version of Bruce and Selina's child, Helena Wayne / Huntress was introduced to the world and though a modified version of the character has become extremely popular, this is the first time we're getting a chance to see the superhero power couple actually have a child together in the mainstream universe.

Of course, considering how Tom King built up the wedding of Batman and Catwoman only to give it an extremely anticlimactic ending, there's always the chance that this pregnancy could end in a tragic stillbirth, miscarriage or worse.

However, we're sure the award-winning writer will still use this development to provide a proper psychological examination of the new parents-to-be, especially a look at what fatherhood means to Bruce Wayne after losing his own father-figure Alfred Pennyworth during King's 'Batman' run.

The artwork was shared by King on Twitter with only a caption of a bat and cat emojis. It hasn't been revealed yet if the art is for King's upcoming 'Batman/Catwoman' 12-issue series with artist Clay Mann or for the Catwoman 80th anniversary special, which King and Janin are confirmed to be working on.

DC will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of Catwoman's introduction in April with a 100-page comic that will bring together a number of legendary comic book creators, including Ed Brubaker, Cameron Stewart and a host of others who have previously worked with the character.

The special will include stories and tribute artwork from Paul Dini, Tom King, Mikel Janin, Ann Nocenti, Adam Hughes, Will Pfeiffer, Steve Rude, Tula Lotay, Emanuela Lupacchino, Mindy Newell, Jim Balent and many more.

'Batman/Catwoman' #1 was scheduled to be released in January 2020 but has since been delayed indefinitely. 'Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular' #1 will be released on April 15.
