'Bargain Mansions': Was returning for Season 3 a bad idea? Viewers call it 'absolute worst show' on HGTV

Some of Tamara's recent home makeovers haven't been sitting well with the viewers of the show

After successfully running for two seasons with more than 26 million viewers, 'Bargain Mansions' returned for a third season with host and designer Tamara Day. The mother of four assisted her father, Ward, on all of his home renovation projects and grew up to be a very passionate designer/renovator. She gives crumbling Kansas City estate homes massive overhauls and adds stunning style to them.

But some of her recent home makeovers haven't been sitting well with the viewers of the show. Tamara is known for making very bold choices when it comes to the color of the walls to the wallpaper print. She likes big masculine furniture and bright-colored nooks and corners. Her idea for a bath is luxurious and relaxing.

For the November 30 episode, Tamara renovated a 1986 colonial house. The official handle tweeted before and after photos of the renovation with the caption, “Fresh landscaping FTW! Which renovated room has you ready to move in? Don’t miss #BargainMansions, every Monday at 9|8c.”

A viewer commented on the renovation, saying, “@hgtv what’s up w/the ridiculous bathroom designs where they put the tub in w/the shower? Who REALLY likes that & how the heck do you clean it? The one on #bargainmansions tonight has me really wondering what people are thinking.” Another responded saying, “And the door into the bathroom opens up into the door to the toilet.  You gotta go in and shut the door to be able to open the door to the loo.  At night that would be awful.  And my wife would leave that door open when I was doing my business to mess with me.”

"All the counter space is great, but the sink is soooo far away from the stove,” wrote another. “#BargainMansions Why paint walls prison gray? Weird built-ins leave no room for quality furniture. Awkward hideous wallpapers added. Plaid carpeting?? Why so many competing types of tile? Nice homes seem to be “renovated” into time-warped, piecemeal, cobbled together wrecks,” wrote another. “I’m so tired of this chick on #BargainMansions using ugly wallpaper! Make it stop,” said another comment.

Questioning Tamara’s color scheme choices, a viewer wrote, “I would NOT have chosen a dark tile in a basement, let alone a basement with already low ceilings.” Another viewer wrote, “Not liking 'Bargain Mansions' on @hgtv at all. Set up, process & before & afters leave everything to be desired including style. Doesn't hold a to any other #hgtv show imo.” “#bargainmansions is the absolute worst show on @hgtv. She has the most horrible taste and absolutely ruins these houses with her tacky design aesthetic... “ wrote yet another viewer.
