After leaving a significant impression on the audiences in the UK, Acorn TV’s French crime-thriller ‘Balthazar’ is prepping for its release in the US. Following the impressive reviews, the Tomer Sisley and Helene de Fougerolles starrer received, the makers have now decided to make their presence be felt in America. Deep in brainteasers, action and of course, enchanting performances of the actors, ‘Balthazar’ has a little bit of something for everyone.

‘Balthazar’ will premiere on Acorn TV on November 25.

Plot

Forensic pathologist Raphael Balthazar’s flair for solving some of the most heinous crimes in Paris has helped him gain the reputation of being one the best in his profession. While his ability to make even the dead speak is unquestionable, the man is haunted by the murder of his wife, which occurred a decade ago. While he sets on a mission to crack the case that has left a huge void in his life, the smart pathologist has to collaborate with the no-nonsense cop Helene de Fougerolles for his further investigations. The show also focuses on the working relationship of the duo, which is pivotal to the plot.

French comedian Tomer Sisley appears as Raphael Balthazar in 'Balthazar'. After winning big at the ‘Just for Laughs’ comedy festival in 2003 as a stand-up comedian, Sisley entered films in 2011, with ‘Sleepless Nights’. He has also featured as Avrim Dahan in Netflix’s American series ‘Messiah’.

Helene de Fougerolles

Helene de Fougerolles has predominantly worked in French films for over two decades. She is the recipient of the 2001’s Romy Schneider Award. Fougerolles has worked in films such as, ‘Les Liens do coeur’, ‘Accuse’, ‘Maman’ and others. In ‘Balthazar’, she is seen as a cop by the name Bach.  

Creators/ Showrunners

Frédéric Berthe, Vincent Jamain and Jeremy Minui have come together to direct the French crime-thriller series. While, Clothilde Jamin and Clélia Constantine have co-written it. Berthe is known for helming shows such as ‘Terre indigo’, ‘Hep Taxi!’ and others.

The official trailer for ‘Balthazar’ released in December 2018 when the series first aired in the UK. It introduces to us to the lead characters Raphael Balthazar and Helene de Fougerolles, featuring a couple of comical bits and glimpses of their serious crime investigations.
