'AGT' Season 17: Fans say Ballet After Dark 'gave me chills' as group delivers mesmerizing performance
Ballet After Dark made their television debut on Season 17 of 'America's Got Talent.' They stunned not only the judges and the live crowd, but also spectators at home, with their dancing performance and coordinated swan-like gestures.
The dance group also talked about their survival adventures and their decision to form an organization, which moved and motivated audiences. The 'AGT' candidates are members of the nonprofit Ballet After Dark, which helps survivors of various sorts of violence recover themselves through interventions and dance therapy, allowing them to "heal their bodies using movement." Their goal is to provide a safe environment for survivors to rehabilitate and flourish as individuals. After hearing their experiences, fans were captivated and wanted to see more.

On this week's episode of 'AGT,' Ballet After Dark wowed everyone with their tenacity and perseverance. Before going deeper and adopting a trauma-informed curriculum, the organization began as a series of community-based dance therapy workshops. Between 2014 and 2018, the organization created 52 dance-therapy workshops that facilitated "providing somatic intervention" to over 170 women and youth in Baltimore City who had been affected by various forms of violence and trauma. The 'AGT' group continued to build the curriculum for a full-fledged somatic intervention program in 2019. The group began with a micro-cohort of 12 survivors as a test. Since then, their dance-therapy program has offered over 150 youth and women much-needed healing experiences and tools.
All of the judges, with the exception of Howie Mandel, who has been absent due to medical concerns, praised their passion and emotional strength. Sofia Vergara stated that she "loved" their performance since she is already a fan of ballet. Simon Cowell describes how he encounters the most remarkable people on the show, people who believe in the show enough to share their stories in a compelling way, exactly like them. He expresses gratitude to them. Heidi says she can see how proud everyone is dancing on stage, and she finds it enjoyable to watch. She professes to be extremely entertained. Simon is the first to say "yes," followed by Sofia and Heidi Klum.
Fans however felt the group should've gotten more screen-time. A tweet read: "@BalletAfterDark should've gotten more screen time #AGT."
