With South Korea’s K-pop industry taking over the globe, their film and drama industry is closely following behind. Netflix invested $500 million for original K-drama content while even Amazon Prime and Disney+ are trying to acquire Korean films and shows. ‘Squid Game’ became an international phenomenon as it was the most-watched Netflix show worldwide. Fans were excited for the Disney+ show ‘Snowdrop’ which had cast Blackpink’s Jisoo and expected it to dominate the Baeksang Arts Award 2022.

Unfortunately, ‘Snowdrop’ did not get a positive reception as the K-drama was embroiled in a scandal. Many netizens claimed that it was distorting history, glorifying the NSA and North Korean spies. Those who tried to reason were ignored as netizens felt they were defending the show because they were fans of Blackpink’s Jisoo. ‘Snowdrop’ was not promoted and had one of the lowest ratings in JTBC production history. However, media authorities, the Blue House (South Korean Presidential office) and the court finally shared their decisions.

‘Snowdrop’ not nominated at Baeksang Arts Awards

The authorities concluded that they had investigated and had not found ‘Snowdrop’ guilty of distorting history. JTBC also shared that they would be suing netizens that had continued to spread false information regarding the show. Fans of Blackpink’s Jisoo and the K-drama hoped that ‘Snowdrop’ would finally get the recognition it deserved including award nominations and wins at prestigious events like the Baeksang Arts Awards 2022. However, that wasn’t the case as ‘Snowdrop’ and its cast, including Jisoo, did not get a single nomination.

Baeksang Arts Awards 2022 will take place on May 6 at 7:45 pm KST (5:45 am ET) and will air on JTBC.

'Snowdrop will always deserve better'

This has made fans angry as they feel that ‘Snowdrop’ was snubbed on purpose so as not to get on the bad side of the netizens that had created an uproar. One fan tweeted, “No lack of baeksang nominations will ever convince me of the fact that the entirety of the snowdrop cast gave award-worthy performances. gave their heart and soul and all that while knowing they were facing unwarranted controversy. kdrama royalty!” Another posted, “Baeksang dissapoint, Snowdrop doesn't.”

A Blink commented, “Next time my love....I just wanna say Jisoo's acting in Snowdrop was absolutely incredible and this is not just something I'm saying being biased but it is a fact that jisoo did so well in Snowdrop, as if she wasn't a rookie at all.....You deserve the world…”

Another was not surprised, “Snowdrop and the cast didn’t get nominated for anything? bye, i expected this but still can’t believe they got robbed like this.” One fan added, “Snowdrop will always deserve better. :(.”

Another shared, “The most robbed drama, the drama that deserved the best but had to endure the worst— but in spite of all these, the drama that won my heart anyway. 🤍I LOVE YOU SNOWDROP. I'M PROUD OF YOU JISOO, I'M PROUD OF YOU HAE IN, & I APPRECIATE ALL THE CAST & PROD TEAM MEMBERS' HARDWORK!”

One fan was angry, “KIM JISOO GOT F**KING ROBBED!! SNOWDROP GOT F**KING ROBBED!” Many had at least expected comedy favorite Kim Hye-yoon to get nominated for her role as a villain, “Even the actress who played boonok DESERVES a nom. damn.”
