Release Date

The series premiered on Sky 1, the popular German entertainment network on October 2017, followed by the second season in 2018. The third season aired on Sky 1 in January 2020.

Now, with the season coming to an end, it will make its way for a global digital release on Netflix. All 12 episodes of 'Babylon Berlin' will drop together on the streaming service on March 1, 2020.

Plot

A German, neo-noir television series, 'Babylon Berlin' follows the story of Colognian commissioner Gereon Rath, who moves to Berlin while the country's socio-political framework is about to undergo an upheaval.

Under the veils of the glamour of the golden twenties, there is a deep, dark conspiracy brewing, which would, very soon, change the face of Europe. A cop who is haunted by his life and a clerical aide, the two try to uncover what lies beneath.

The story starts in 1929 Berlin, during the time of the Weimar Republic when Inspector Gereon Rath is on a mission to the capital city.

With the help of Charlotte Ritter, a police clerk turned investigator, the two embark on a journey that has not only changed their lives but also been an eye-opener as they discover a deep and intense political conspiracy.

Across the first two seasons, they have seen their homeland moving from the liberal Weimar Republic to the fascist Third Reich. In Season 3, the dynamic duo would find themselves amid the rise of the Nazi Party under Adolf Hitler, while they continue to grapple with the crumbling democracy.

The political drama thriller stars Volker Bruch and Liv Lisa Fries in the leading roles.
