Baby Keem, whose real name is Hykeem Jamaal Carter Jr., dropped his debut album called ‘The Melodic Blue’ on Friday, September 10. While the fans were already familiar with two earlier tracks from the record i.e. Travis Scott-assisted ‘Durag Activity’ and a Kendrick Lamar feature on the song ‘Family Ties’, Keem managed to surprise his fans with two more features from his cousin Kendrick.

Baby Keem’s debut project is stacked with 16 songs. The young lad had first teased the album in August 2020 despite the project being in the works since late 2019. The 20-year-old rapper has both songwriting and production credits on his cousin Kendrick Lamar's project, ‘Black Panther: The Album’, TDE member Jay Rock's ‘Redemption’, Schoolboy Q's ‘Crash Talk’, and the song ‘Nile’ from Disney's ‘The Lion King: The Gift’.

Baby Keem debut featuring cousin Kendrick Lamar

The snippet of Baby Keem’s track ‘Range Brothers’ got leaked a few hours prior to the album release where we could hear Kendrick Lamar’s unique flow as he repeats the lines, “Top o’ the morning’ and the phrase “Let’s get this shit” multiple times.  After fans slammed Lamar for his leaked verse, Keem came to his defense on Twitter saying they created new languages as rap was boring. “Me and dot created four new languages bro. rap was boring. so we start making new languages. rangebrothers caveman brother.”

Speaking of Lamar, he recently bid farewell to his record label TDE of 17 years. The Grammy-winning rap icon is expected to drop his fifth yet untitled album very soon.  Circling back to ‘The Melodic Blue’, the album also keeps the fans hooked with a Don Toliver collaboration called ‘Cocoa. Shedding light on his new project Keem had recently tweeted, “My art is 99.9% feeling and .1% technicality. the world will feel it soon come. the people. The Melodic Blue.” The debut album was released via Kendrick’s pgLang and Columbia records. Apart from ‘Family Ties’, and ‘Range Brothers’, Lamar has also contributed to the song ‘Vent’.
