'Avlu: The Yard': Release date, plot, trailer, cast and everything you need to know about Netflix's Turkish prison drama

Charged with the attempted murder of her husband, Deniz is sent to prison. She must now learn how to survive in this new world.

‘Orange Is the New Black’ may be over but you can still get your prison drama fix. ‘Avlu: The Yard’ is a Turkish show that follows the tale of Deniz (Demet Evgar), a middle-aged woman and her struggles in an all-woman prison.

Release date:

While the show has three seasons already, season one of ‘Avlu: The Yard’ will premiere on Netflix on October 18.

Plot:

Deniz has been exposed to domestic violence for a long time. During a fight, her daughter shoots her father while she is trying to protect Deniz, so

she, in order to protect her, takes the blame. Charged with the attempted murder of her husband, Deniz is sent to prison. She must now learn how to survive in this new world. According to TurkishDrama.com, ‘Avlu: The Yard’ chronicles Deniz’s arrival to the prison and her transition from a scared housewife to an influential prisoner.

Demet Evgar as Deniz Demir

Evgar is a prominent theater actor and has played roles in TV Shows such as 'Asli ile Kerem', 'Bütün Cocuklarim', and 'Emret Komutanim', and a number of successful movies such as 'Banyo', 'Beyza'nin Kadinlari', 'Günesi Gordüm', and 'Yahsi Bati'.

Ceren Moray as Azra Kaya

The Turkish actress is known for her roles in ‘Kavak Yelleri’, ‘Isler Güçler’ and the shows like  ‘O Hayat Benim’ and ‘Serseri Asiklar’.

Nursel Kose as Kudret Ozturk

This German actress, author and cabaret artist of Turkish descent is well-known for her roles in ‘The Edge of Heaven’ and ‘Kuzu’.

Several episodes in the series have been directed by Yüksel Aksu, Hülya Gezer, Safak Bal, and Ismail Sahin.

Trailer:

The trailer follows Deniz’s arrest and her subsequent tribulations in prison. At odds against fellow prisoners and guards, Deniz fights to survive. She has, after all, a daughter to protect.
