Aang’s teacher, Brother Gyatso, believes that Aang is not yet prepared for significant responsibilities but always reminds him of his great talent.
When Aang learns about his true identity, he experiences intense emotional turmoil. Aang's fellow Airbenders and teachers urge him to master the other bending abilities so he can fight back against the Fire Nation.
However, he flies away with Appa, his sky bison, to clear his mind. He becomes lost in the ocean and is ultimately frozen in a massive block of ice for 100 years.
After spending a century in an iceberg, he learns that the Fire Nation has killed all the Airbenders. Subsequently, he discovers Gyatso's charred remains, leading to another emotional outburst.
