'Astronomy Club': Release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about Netflix's sketch comedy show from 'Black-ish' creator Kenya Barris

The sketch-comedy series will play like a reality show. Six half-hour episodes will be released this December.

Netflix will release the Kenya-Barris produced-sketch-comedy show, 'Astronomy Club', this year, featuring the eponymously named improv and comedy group, Astronomy Club.

The Astronomy Club is a New-York based comedy group that first formed in 2013 and became the first and only all-black house team at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. They became known for their Comedy Central digital series and their famous recurring sketch show, 'A Journey Thru Black History', in which they satirize racial oppression in modern America from their own experiences.

Release date

The six half-hour episodes of the first part will be released on December 6.

Plot

The Netflix series will use comedy to discuss complex and nuanced real-world topics, combining honesty with levity and explore a wide variety of topics ranging from pop culture and social issues to the Black experience.

The series will feature a show within a show, in the form of a fake reality show with all the members living together in one house. The characters will be heightened versions of the members.

Cast

The comedy group features Shawtane Bowen ('The Sopranos', 'A Bronx Girl'), Jonathan Braylock ('Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt', 'How To Be Single'), Ray Cordova ('Off the F'), Caroline Martin ('Black Mirror', 'Crashing'), Jerah Milligan ('Black Mirror', 'Chicago P.D.'), Monique Moses ('Sport Court'), Keisha Zollar ('Busy Tonight'), and James III ('Black Mirror', 'Broad City').
