MAR VISTA, LOS ANGELES: Anne Heche's son has spoken about the significance of the actress's final resting place. Homer Laffoon, 20, and his brother, Atlas Tupper, 13, chose the Hollywood Forever Cemetery because they believed their mother would have approved of where they chose to bury her remains after she died.

"My brother Atlas and I want to thank Tyler, Noelle, and all the amazing people at Hollywood Forever for their kindness, compassion, and generosity of spirit," Laffoon said in a statement provided to Page Six. "We are convinced our Mom would love the site we have chosen for her; it’s beautiful, serene and she will be among her Hollywood peers. A living place, where people attend movies and concerts and other events," the statement read.

Laffoon, Heche’s oldest son, continued, "She was our Mom, but the kindness and the outpouring of the past few days reminded us that she also belongs to her fans, to the entertainment community, and now, to the ages." Heche shared Laffon with ex-husband Coleman "Coley" Laffoon and co-parented her younger son Tupper with her ex-boyfriend and 'Men in Trees' costar James Tupper.

Among the famous people laid to rest at the Hollywood Forever cemetery are 'Wizard of Oz' star Judy Garland, Rudolph Valentino, Mickey Rooney, Valerie Harper, Anton Yelchin and Chris Cornell. Founded in 1899, the cemetery also hosts a number of cultural events on a regular basis, such as concerts and outdoor film screenings.

On August 5, the 'Six Days, Seven Nights' star crashed her Mini Cooper into a Los Angeles home that resulted in a fire. The actress was severely injured and went into a coma but never came out of it. She was declared brain dead on August 12, but remained on life support to allow time for potential organ recipients.

Heche died from smoke inhalation and thermoelectric injuries, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner. Investigators were able to confirm that she was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the crash, according to reports. The actress was 53 at the time. Heche's rep released a statement mourning Heche’s passing.

“Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact," the statement read.
