Anne had suffered "a severe anoxic brain injury and [remained] in a coma, in critical condition," from injuries sustained in the August 5 car crash. On August 12, Anne, who was an organ donor, was declared legally dead in the state of California, but she remained on life support to allow the OneLegacy Foundation time to find recipients for her organs.

Subsequently, she was removed from life support on Sunday, August 14, after suitable recipients were identified by health officials. Anne was reportedly "high on cocaine" but she had not been drinking alcohol.

Speaking to E! News, Anne's representatives said, "Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy.
