NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Amy Grant has opened up about her rehabilitation from a near-fatal bike accident she experienced in July 2022 close to her Nashville home. The 62-year-old confessed that the crash knocked her out for ten minutes and that she experienced severe brain trauma, which caused her to forget her own songs.

Grammy Award-winning singer said she felt "re-revved up" despite her health issues, which included having heart surgery and the removal of a throat cyst. Grant, who is married to fellow musician Vince Gill, claimed that it could take her up to 18 months to fully recover from her cognitive problems. "I wrote this long book. It was a spiral notebook," 'The Queen of Christian Music Pop' said on Today show about her life following the crash. "And I was just writing to remember... making sure I could remember everybody's name in my family, which I couldn't, at first."

'I've got an Adam's apple that keeps getting bigger'

When asked by the host Craig Melvin if the 'Lead Me On' singer could remember every word to every one of her songs, she said, "Oh gosh, no. The first night of the Christmas tour, which is the first time back on tour, [I used a] teleprompter, and I was on heels. I was, like, holding onto the piano. Before the show I was like, 'I'm so scared. I'm so scared'."

Grant has recently experienced significant physical difficulties in addition to the crash, which was brought on by her running over a pothole. She underwent a heart operation in 2020 and had a throat cyst removed in January 2022.

Grant said, "[I was] working with a vocalist and she said 'What is happening in your throat? Lean your head back,' and I said, 'I know. It's like I've got an Adam's apple that keeps getting bigger.' Unbeknownst to me, I'd had a thyroglossal duct cyst." Rather than letting the obstacles hold her down, Grant says she utilized her faith to aid in her recovery and feels "re-revved up in a really beautiful way."

'I was so glad they waited for me to heal'

Grant announced on Wednesday, March 2, that a new song, 'Trees We'll Never See', would soon be released. On Instagram, she stated, "So much creativity has been put on hold in my life, for all kinds of reasons. Last summer I was asked to sing on a new Cory Asbury song yet to be released."

Grant added, "This might be one of the best songs I have heard in a long time. I was so glad they waited for me to heal up and get back to the studio." Several fans rushed the comment section after learning of the new song's release. One person wrote, "You go, girl! :) Peace be with you, your music inspired my own."

Another fan commented, "So excited for you! I understand about creativity being put on hold. But is so exciting when God opens doors and makes the way, isn't it? Praying for even more opportunities for you. In Jesus name!" A third fan wrote, "Yaaayy... can't wait! Prayers continue for your health and well being dear Amy ! God bless you and yours !"

"I’m so excited for new music. I saw you on the 3rd hour Today show. Thanks to you and Craig," another fan wrote. "So excited to hear your newest creation can't wait to see you this month in concert!" this other fan wrote.
