SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Looks like ‘Big Mouth’ is the next hit K-drama that is on everyone’s watchlist as it went from the lowest ratings it could get during its premiere to hitting double digits for its latest episode. Produced by MBC and also acquired by Disney+, it has slowly stolen the hearts of Korean and international fans as it stars actor Lee Jong-suk in his first K-drama since his return from the military. While many were wary of the female lead, idol actress YoonA of Girls’ Generation fame surprised everyone with her acting skills that have grown tremendously since her ‘The K2’ days.

In ‘Big Mouth’ Lee Jong-suk plays Park Chang-ho, an unsuccessful lawyer with only a 10% success rate of winning his cases. He is known as “Big Mouth” in the legal circle for only talking big without being able to follow up on his promises. After being wrongfully arrested, he ends up being mistaken for “Big Mouse”, a mysterious and powerful conman. In the latest episodes, along with Chang-ho, the viewers start speculating on who the real “Big Mouse” might be which has led to ‘Big Mouth’ becoming one of the most talked about K-drama on social media.

‘Big Mouth’ gets its highest viewership rating yet

‘Big Mouth’ had a slow start as its first episode had its lowest rating with 5.6% viewership nationwide according to TNmS. However, it shot up by episode 3 as the noir thriller is picking up its plot. Episode 5 which aired on August 12 had its highest rating with 10% viewership in Seoul alone according to Nielsen Korea. The K-drama’s episode also had a 9.8% TV viewership rating nationwide. Expectations are higher for the next episode on August 13 with insiders predicting an even larger viewership as social media was abuzz with the episode 6 trailer alone. ‘Big Mouth’ is also in the top 10 of Disney+ in several countries.

'Big Mouth' follows Chang-ho who is roped in by the mayor to look into a high-profile murder as he will not be taken seriously by the perpetrators due to his poor reputation. As he is getting close to uncovering the mystery, he ends up getting into an accident and is arrested for drug use and sent to jail. Before the perpetrators can kill him for being a double agent, someone claims he is “Big Mouse” and they let him live, afraid to double cross the conman. Chang-ho decides to take advantage of his time in prison and mistaken identity to look into the case from the inside.

‘I will blindly watch any Lee Jong-suk drama’

Knetizens claim that along with the plot, the high viewership is all thanks to Lee Jong-suk who everyone missed while he was away for the last 2 years to complete his mandatory military service. They made comments like, “The male actor is really the wild horse, he's so good that the drama is freaking enjoyable,” “As expected from Lee Jongsuk's drama. All of his dramas are fun,” and “Honestly the first 2 episodes felt messy but after that it just suuuuuuucked you in ㅋㅋㅋ Lee Jongsuk is a f**king wild horseㅋㅋㅋㅋ He's so good.” Many were also impressed with YoonA, “At this point, this is a given for Lee Jongsuk but I'm also seeing Yoona in a new lightㅋㅋ The characters are all charming and they stick to you.”

Another said, “Lee Jongsuk-Yoona's chemistry is insane. Lee Jongsuk’s…acting is so good. Yoona too, now that I'm seeing her, she's able to act with a lot of emotions. I really hope to see both of them in a romantic comedy next time and also shoot a pictorial together too.” Another fan asked, “At this point, is there ever a bad Lee Jong suk drama???” One added, “LJS has good eyes for his dramas. Rarely disappointing and he rarely took upon a chaebol or super rich character now that I noticed it, its interesting.” Another fan wrote, “I will blindly watch any Lee Jong Suk drama. The cast list says "Lee Jong Suk"?? I click!”
