Spoilers for 'American Rust' Episode 2: 'Happy Returns'
The positive response for 'American Rust' continued as fans dubbed Episode 2 'Happy Returns' as a chapter that just showcased the series' potential to be a hit. With Billy Poe (Alex Neustaedter) becoming the prime suspect in the murder of cop Pete Novick (Jim True-Frost).
The episode moves swiftly from Del Harris (Jeff Daniels) figuring out Billy was part of the murder and sending him off on his way with some valuable escape advice when he finds the young man lurking near the murder location. "That's good. I have that issue with American Rust. Slow burn (which I'm patient about), but some odd plot things by episode two that made me go, "Hmmm.", read one of the tweets. One of the fans felt the complicated characters just added to the depth of the show. "Watching #americanrust this show has alot of complicated flawed characters . Im liking it so far," a fan opined. For those who started the show, there were reasons. "Just started watching American Rust. Kinda cool to see Clairton’s stadium in the first 15 minutes," a fan tweeted.
Maura Tierney's performance garnered attention as well. "Good reminder that Maura Tierney has never won a Emmy and only been nominated once, though if she finally wins one and it’s for American Rust, I will be furious," a tweet read. When the series premiered last Sunday, social media gave the show a positive rating despite the mixed reviews the series received. "Just a little FYI for your timeline’s. #AmericanRust is everything Mare Of Easttown should have been. Gritty, darker, and better acting from a well rounded cast than just overwrought accents. Just saying…." one of the tweets read.
