Is there an ‘All American’ spin-off? How Geffri Maya's Simone Hicks may step into a new world in The CW series
Who doesn't love a good college drama? ‘All American’ has won hearts with a pinch of love, friendship and familial ties in every episode of The CW show that leans into the world of football and intertwines with a passion for music. If the chatter in gossip mills is to be believed, the beloved series may soon get its very own spin-off show. Unbelievable? Well, it's true.
The network has spread the word that it may be eyeing its next franchise opportunity. Back in December 2020, TVLine reported that an offshoot football-themed drama may be in its early stages. Guess which character from the show would be at its center? Geffri Maya's Simone Hicks, who is going through a pregnancy in the show, will have a fascinating tale sewn as she attends a historically Black college.
The potential new series is said to be introduced during a regular episode of the upcoming third season with college-bound Simone Hicks. The character, first introduced in the second season, was entering her senior year at Beverly High and was shown to have a blossomed romance with Jordan Baker (Michael Evans Behling). Last season, she falsely tricked him into believing he was the father of her baby until it was revealed that the father was a student at Simone’s previous school, Westlake High.
By the end of the season, Jordan had fallen in love with Simone. Now, as a new season begins, we may see how Simone might give birth to the little one and start a new life. Did you know Geffri Maya also starred in ‘Private Practice’ (2007), ‘Nasty Habits’ (2014) and ‘East of La Brea’ before The CW series? In the new season, she is credited as a guest star instead of a regular or even recurring member of the cast.
The buzz is real and although the reps for The CW and Warner Bros declined to comment, the two companies also are working on a potential spinoff of ‘Black Lightning’, which — according to Deadline — will originate as a backdoor pilot on the mothership series.
Do you think the potential spin-off will get a green light? And if it does, would you be interested in sneaking into the life of Simone? Some fans are overjoyed. One said, “Yay!!!! I’ve followed her career since Private Practice this is so cool for her!” and another posted, “Love it for her.”
