'He crushed it': Adam Sandler doesn't think Chris Rock went too far with Will and Jada Smith jokes
WASHINGTON, DC: Adam Sandler has only praise for his friend Chris Rock when he was asked to comment on his Will and Jada Smith’s jokes on Netflix live comedy special, ‘Selective Outrage’. The 56-year-old comedian did not believe Rock crossed the line during the show as he told PEOPLE on March 19 before getting honored with the 2023 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, “Never thought that in my life.”
He continued, “I thought he was unbelievably relaxed, funny, thoughtful. Crushed it and was real to himself. And it was as exciting to watch as when the Super Bowl is on. I thought about it all weekend. 'All right, Rock is doing his thing tonight!' Sat, watched it in my kitchen, laughed my ass off, and immediately watched it right after. It was one of the best experiences. I thought it was amazing.”

‘The comedy I'm watching, I'm loving’
As per reports, Rock’s live was mainly about taking a dig at cancel culture. Sandler was questioned about Chris Rock's take, to which he replied, “I don't know. The comedy I'm watching right now. I'm loving.”
This comes as former ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast member Rob Schneider shared positive reviews for Rock’s show too. He reportedly said, “He's outrageous. He's incredible. He really does set the bar. He's able to take really complex societal ideas and make them hilarious and bring us on board to some place of sanity, some place of reason.”
“He's so hilariously reasonable. He subverts us to his point of view, and that's his genius. And modern comedy changed after Chris Rock, truthfully, 25 years ago,” he added.
‘Pure unadulterated Chris Rock brilliance’
Another ex-SNL cast member Dana Carvey has agreed with Schneider as he stated, “There are a million opinions so there's kind of no such thing as too far because it's called, 'I don't like it, me turn off, you know?' If it was government order that you had to watch it then you would be allowed to be offended.”
“That was just pure unadulterated Chris Rock brilliance, the entire thing. He was on point and that's really difficult, what we did, and whether there was real emotion and comedy mixed at the end, that's for anyone else to observe but it was quite an achievement,” Carvey asserted.
‘That’s loyalty’
Meanwhile, Sandler’s comments have attracted some mixed reactions online with a user saying, “Standing w his brother as he should.” Another user wrote, “That’s loyalty.” The third one shared, “The real question should be ‘Did Will Smith go too far when he slapped Chris Rock?’” The fourth user tweeted, “Chris Rock's Netflix special had some funny parts to it but it mostly sucked! Dave Chappelle he is not!”

“Will Smith actions were wrong but sometimes comedians go to far for a joke,” a person noted. Another one added, “Of course Adam Sandler defended Chris Rock. Hes the only guy that will hire him.”
