'A Million Little Things' Season 2 Episode 2: Is Maggie's mother in town because she has a new man?
Spoilers for season 2 episode 2 of 'A Million Little Things' titled 'Grand Canyon'
The promo for season 2 episode 2 suggested that Maggie's mother Patricia (Melora Hardin) visited Boston and spent the weekend with Maggie and Gary (James Roday). Before her arrival, a very nervous Maggie was running around the house, checking and cross-checking everything. Gary tells her to not stress about the visit and that it'll go just fine.
But it doesn't, for as it turns out, Maggie's mother has a surprise for her. Just as Gary is unloading her suitcases off the cab, she reveals that she has left her father and so, obviously, this is not a weekend trip.
Back at home, shocked at this revelation, Maggie confronts her mother and asks if after 32 years together they can't try repairing what they have. Patricia explains to Maggie that she figured she has her life ahead of her and that life "doesn't include your father". Patricia is even out and about hunting for houses.
Later in the episode, Gary and Patricia talk about why she's really here. Patricia tells him that she is hoping to reconnect with her daughter, reconnect with what she has left in life. "You need to appreciate what you have, instead of focusing on what you lost," she tells Gary. She also tells him that although she wishes to tell Maggie things she is afraid that she will say the wrong thing and her daughter wouldn't like that. And then she asks Gary for a restaurant recommendation to apparently dine by herself.
When Maggie gets back home, Gary sends her to the restaurant to reconnect with her mother. Once there, she is informed that her mother is not at the restaurant and she must wait at the bar, where she meets Eric (Jason Ritter). They joke around for a little while. However, she steps away for a bit and turns around to see her mother stroking Eric's hair and face.
Is he the reason Patricia came to Boston?
