The Johnston family has a new member. In the latest episode (April 21), Trent Johnston revealed they were going to adopt a dog as they thought it would be a nice little addition to the family. Elizabeth Johnston said she had been asking her parents to get another dog for a long time and after months of pleading, they finally agreed.

Meanwhile, Trent revealed that with summer going on and the Johnston children having a lot of free time in their hands, getting a new dog would make sense. The family is already proud parents of their dog Jesse but they are all set to give another little one a new home. Trent revealed getting a dog into the family was like having a new baby.

However, Amber Johnston did not agree with this statement as she thought having a baby was a lot more tedious than getting a dog. The family decided they would get a Dachshund as it was a lot like "ACHON dogs", that is, they reflected a  lot of characteristics of people who have Achondroplasia dwarfism.

Amber admitted that the breed also had short limbs and torso, just like dwarf people. The family finally decided to take a two-hour trip to get their little one home. Once the family reached the destination, all of them could not control their excitement as they first lay eyes on the puppy.

Amber exclaimed, "It's a boy!", while Trent stated it is a "5 pound, 14 inch, chocolate Weiner". Amber revealed she was excited to have a chocolate brown colored dog because their first dog is also of the same color. After meeting the puppy, Elizabeth said they are going to name him Cruiser.

She hinted she wanted to settle for the name "cruise" but Trent suggested it could be used as a nickname for him if they called him "Cruiser". The family ultimately settled on the name. Once they reached home, all of them took the time to play with the latest addition in the family. Their other dog, Jesse, had also happily accepted the new family member.

Undoubtedly, the Johnston children were happy to have Cruiser with them now and we sure hope their summers will be better.

'7 Little Johnstons' airs on Tuesdays at 10 pm ET on TLC.
