As the year comes to an end and the era of K-pop and Korean Entertainment awards start taking fans by storm, another award show has confirmed its air date and location for fans. The Golden Disc Awards is one of the biggest K-pop awards shows and dominates the first month of every new year. It will continue to do so for the year 2022.

2022 will mark the 36th edition of the award ceremony that will be held in Seoul, South Korea. JTBC, the network that hosts the Golden Disc Awards, has announced the air date of the ceremony and on December 6 it was announced that the 36th Golden Disc Awards (GDA) will be held on January 8, 2022. The announcement also revealed that the award show will be a one-day event only and the organizers of the ceremony have prepared the event in a “clean concert hall” with adequate social distancing guidelines to comply with the Covid restrictions.

The 2021 GDA gets its venue

It has been announced that the Golden Disc Awards for 2022 will be held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul. While the decision of holding the show as an in-person event unlike 2021’s online ceremony is still impending as the organization debates the presence of fans in the audience. The Golden Disc Awards of 2021 was the first online version of the show which was done in a non-face-to-face awards ceremony putting the safety of all artists, audiences, and staff first.

For the 36th edition of the awards ceremony, the organizers have decided to wait before they announce their decision about the show after assessing the Covid-19 situation in the days to come. For the 36th GDA, artists that released new music from the period of November 2020 to mid-November 2021 will be eligible for a nomination from the event.

The songs and albums that were excluded from the nominations in 2020-21 due to overlapping in the counting deadline last year will also be included in this year’s list of nominees. The nominations will be announced on December 8 on the official 36th Golden Disc Awards website.



 

Big winners of the 35th GDA

The 35th Golden Disc Awards was a two-day online event that was held on January 9 and 10, 2021. BTS took home the Daesang (Grand Prize) for Album of the Year with their fourth studio album ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ and the nation’s sister IU took the only other Daesang of the Golden Disc Awards, Song of the Year, for her hit song, ‘Blueming’.



 

Other winners of Bonsangs (Main Prize) from the night were groups like BTS, Blackpink, ITZY, Mamamoo, Oh My Girl, EXO, Red Velvet, GOT7, NCT, Seventeen, Twice, TXT, and more with soloists like Mamamoo’s Hwasa, EXO’s Baekhyun, Zico, Noel, and IU. Rookies like Enhypen, Treasure, and Kim Ho-joong were awarded ‘Rookie of the Year’ awards while Jessi, Changmo, Lim Young-woong and others bagged genre awards.
