'1000-lb Sisters' star Amanda Halterman faces backlash over second bariatric surgery approval bid
DIXON, KENTUCKY: '1000-lb Sisters' star Tammy Slaton, revealed in the Season 5 premiere episode that she had lost approximately 300 pounds. Inspired by her sister, Tammy, half-sibling Amanda Halterman explored weight loss surgery.
Accompanied by her sister, Misty Wentworth, Amanda visited Dr Eric Smith's clinic seeking approval for bariatric surgery. Amanda's brother, Chris Combs, shared in the confessional, "If Amanda and Misty get approval, the whole family will have had weight loss surgery."
Amanda seemingly obtained approval for the surgery, evident in her recent social media photos flaunting significant weight loss.
However, Amanda had previously undergone gastric bypass surgery in 2014, predating her entry into the TLC show in 2021.
Viewers criticized Amanda for pursuing a second surgery and slammed her for allegedly not maintaining her weight after the initial procedure.
A social media user wrote, "Amanda doesnt need to get surgery again..she needs to shut her mouth and get on a treadmill😒."

Another person added, "A revision is not gonna work Amanda, for the same reasons the original surgery didn't. Surgery doesn't result in weight loss -- it's the diet."

Amanda Halterman mocks Amy Slaton's eyes
In the recent episode of '1000-lb Sisters' Season 5, Amanda made a jest about Amy Slaton's legally blind eyes, reducing the reality star to tears. Amy, grappling with the challenges of single motherhood, appeared to reach a breaking point.
The Slaton siblings, including Amy, gathered to welcome Tammy back from Ohio rehab, marking Tammy's first time sitting in a seat in years.
Amidst a seemingly jovial atmosphere, Amanda's comment about Amy's eyes touched a sensitive nerve, escalating into a heated argument that ultimately led to Amy tearfully leaving the party.
However, the viewers fumed over Amanda's joke and slammed her for not apologizing to Amy. A social media user tweeted, "Amanda you made fun of Amy’s lazy eye and you don’t know why she’s upset??"

Several fans also took to Reddit as one claimed, "I don’t understand why Amanda couldn’t just say, “I’m sorry. I won’t talk about you like that anymore because I now understand that those words hurt,” like, apologizing and having empathy is so damn hard for some people."
Another critic wrote, "That’s what I was thinking. Especially because Amy has been very vocal about how her eyes are her true insecurity and she is very sensitive about them. Seems to me like Amanda can’t have any kind of accountability when she messes up."
