‘Worst Jeopardy! round ever': Viewers furious after all contestants fail to make money

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Jeopardy!’ viewers witnessed a rather bizarre moment in the latest episode of the show. Mayim Bialik was tending to her hosting duties instead of Ken Jennings and opposite her were three contestants who went into the first break with either $0 or negative scores on the board. This was a highly unlikely but not impossible moment on the show which completely baffled the fans. The viewers questioned whether such an unexpected feat has happened in the past.

According to NewsWeek, all three contestants being at $0 at the end of Final Jeopardy has happened six times. The most famous incident happened during Alex Trebek's second-ever game hosting, leaving the crowd utterly furious. However, on the latest episode of ‘Jeopardy!’, it happened only just before the first commercial break.

The contestants did not bring their A-game

Ilhana Redzovic, an investment associate from Chicago, Illinois, was returning with a one-day total of $20,400. Although she ended up defeating Lisa Gargiulo, a middle school English teacher from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and Kyle Marshall, a library branch manager from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the first round of the game show didn’t belong to anyone. Bialik kept throwing clues at the contestants and unfortunately, they kept missing them one after the other. There were six incorrect responses in the first 15 prompts and Ilhana landed on the round's only Daily Double.

Ilhana wagered her entire $2,200 and ended up missing the clue yet again. The clue was, “Lamborghini's Sesto Elemento was named for its pioneering use of this, from which much of the car is made.” Ilhana incorrectly guessed “Aluminum” and lost it all. The scores at the first break read - Ilhana at $0, Kyle at -$200, and Lisa at -$200.

'Worst Jeopardy round I've ever seen'

After witnessing a disastrous start to the game, viewers did not let the contestants off the hook that easily. They gave them a piece of their mind as they took to Reddit to express their disbelief. One fan wrote, “That was the worst Jeopardy round I've ever seen.” Another built on the disappointment with, “I don't know if it was just me, but that was pretty dismal. Better than I could have done given the difficulty I found in today's clues, but yeah. That Jeopardy round score was pretty low across the board. It seems like everyone had trouble staying out of the negative!”

Another fan wondered, "When was the last time they went to the first break with no one above $0?” One fan was all in on the jokes as he stated, “These players guessed too much.” But the fan who echoed the sentiment closest joked, "This game is brought to you by nobody wants to win.”

For now, Mayim Bialik will continue to host ‘Jeopardy!’ instead of Ken Jennings until the summer.
