Ahead of the release of 'Wonder Woman 1984', DC Comics is putting out a tie-in comic with some interesting plot points. 'Wonder Woman 1984' #1, as the comic is titled, will feature two stories, the first of which will be written by the movie's associate producer Anna Obropta and Louise Simonson, writer on 'Superman: The Man of Steel', 'Power Pack' and more.

Their story will feature Wonder Woman rescuing hostages from the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History but it is the second story that has us very intrigued. Penned by Steve Pugh, an artist who has worked for both Marvel and DC, this second story will see Diana losing her Lasso of Truth to some sort of mastermind (could it be Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord?). That story will also feature Steve Trevor and we find that a bit confusing. As you may know, Chris Pine will be reprising his role as Steve in 'WW84' but the circumstances of his return are still pretty murky.

The description for that story reads, "A reckless mastermind has made the ultimate power move by stealing Wonder Woman’s golden Lasso of Truth, and it’s up to Diana and Steve Trevor to get it back before the worst happens!"

Of course, DC hasn't made it quite clear yet whether these stories take place in the same continuity as the movie. The book is set to come out in September while the movie is currently scheduled to release in October so there's always the possibility that the book takes place either separately or before the events of the upcoming film. Right now it does appear as if DC has high hopes for the movie to come out on the current release date despite the delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic. We're hoping they're right but we're not going to say so for certain yet.

In any case, this 32-page beauty will be featuring art by Bret Blevins ('New Mutants') and Marguerite Sauvage ('DC Comics Bombshells') with cover art by Nicola Scott. This book should be a treat for fans of the character, whether you love the movie version or the comics.

'Wonder Woman 1984' #1 the book will be released on September 29, except for in select Walmarts where it will release earlier on September 20. The movie 'Wonder Woman 1984' is currently scheduled to release on October 2.
