Will ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ return for Season 2? Showrunner shares surprising update
It is safe to say that 'Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen' has left viewers terrified with its finale. The question now is whether the show returns for another installment. As per Radio Times, Netflix has not made any announcement about the renewal. Showrunner Haley Z. Boston claims that if a second season becomes a reality, it would be with an entirely new cast and storyline. The way the first season ended, Rachel Harkin (Camila Morrone) may make a return, but from the looks of it, the second season will not be a continuation of her story. "In my mind, it was always one [season], and it works as one. I think it's a complete story," Boston shared.
'Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen' ends with a bloody wedding ceremony and Harkin taking up the role of the witness. Throughout the season, she tries to figure out if her fiancé Nicky Cunningham (Adam DiMarco) is indeed her soulmate, to avoid a curse on her family line. This process causes her significant anxiety, which Boston claims is a manifestation of her fear of commitment, according to The Wrap. “It just felt like something I hadn’t really seen before, a horror show about the fear of commitment,” Boston shared. “It was something I was going through, so it was personal to me.” The curse seemingly represents Harkin's doubts. The only way to defeat the doubt is by believing, which she chooses to do in the finale, before things go south.
Boston confessed that the show put her own existential fear of commitment on the center stage. Now, if it does return, the show will deal with some other existential fear rooted in her being. “There is an open thread, but this was so inspired by my own fear that I’m gonna need another existential fear to explore. I think we’re done with the wedding thing,”. Duffer Brothers, known for their blockbuster show 'Stranger Things', served as executive producers for the show. Expectations were high as it followed the last installment of their record-breaking offering.
The show was released on March 26, 2026, and has since become a viral product for the streamer, according to The Sunday Guardian. As per reactions on social media, some have found the show intriguing, while others have called it creepy. No matter which opinion is true, one thing is for sure: it has captured a great number of eyeballs. Currently, it holds an impressive 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. These reactions can be deemed as positive signs for its renewal possibilities. Boston would definitely be up for it. "Of course, it is a bit open-ended – there's a world where the show exists as an anthology if I would be lucky enough to be able to continue that [but] it's such a personal story to me," she shared.
