Christopher Meloni breaks silence on 'Law & Order: Organized Crime' cancellation: 'It was a good ride'
'Law & Order: Organized Crime' fans recently received heartbreaking news as NBC announced the show's cancellation on April 16, as per The Hollywood Reporter. The title, which saw Christopher Meloni reprising his role as Detective Elliot Stabler from 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', will not return for Season 6. The actor shared his thoughts about the cancellation after the news made headlines and expressed his gratitude to the team behind the show and the audience.
“Hey, everyone. I just saw that they announced OC, Organized Crime, won’t be coming back. So I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans, who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back… Good ride. It was a good ride," he shared. He added, "Had a great time playing him. It was a great ride. But thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of. Nearly 17, 17 odd years.”
Detective Elliot first appeared in 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' in 1999 as a former soldier with a complicated personal life. His chemistry with Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) soon became the talk of the town. Meloni shocked fans when he left the hit show after Season 12. In 2020, his comeback in the new spin-off led to a wave of happiness amongst die-hard Bensler fans. The characters often crossed paths, as both shows are set in New York, and their scenes together played on their long-simmering dynamic. The spin-off stood out from other shows in the franchise as it focused equally on Stabler’s personal and professional lives.
The cancellation did not come as a surprise, as the spin-off never garnered satisfactory ratings. This was one of the major reasons behind its move to Peacock after four seasons. The latest season aired from April to June 2025. Nearly a year after concluding its run, the show was cancelled by the network. It is currently unclear whether the actor will return to the flagship show 'Law & Order: SVU,' which has been renewed for its record-breaking 28th season. However, the tone of the actor's latest message suggests a final goodbye to the show and his character. At present, Meloni is attached to the Hulu series 'The Land, ' which could also hamper the possibility of his return to the franchise. 'Law & Order: Organized Crime' is currently available for streaming on Peacock.
