'Brigands: The Quest for Gold' Season 2 Update: Here's the renewal status for Netflix's period drama
Warning: Spoilers ahead for 'Brigands: The Quest for Gold'
APULIA, ITALY: The first season of Netflix's 'Brigands: The Quest for Gold' aka 'Briganti' was released on April 23, 2024, and fans who have seen the first season have been speculating about the possibility of a second season being in the works.
The series was written by Antonio Le Fosse, Giacomo Mazzariol, Marco Raspanti, Re Salvador, and Eleonora Trucchi and directed by Antonio Le Fosse, Steve Saint Leger, and Nicola Sorcinelli collectively called GRAMS. The series tells the story of Filomena (Michela De Rossi), who lets go of her wealthy life as a wife to an abusive husband to join a group of brigands.
At the end of the series, Filomena is betrayed by Schiavone (Marlon Joubert) who takes away the gold that the brigands stole to help the commonfolk. The series also ends with Michelina (Martina Lutz) being captured. The story has some open ends waiting to be explored but is there a second season being planned for the series? Let us find out.
'Brigands: The Quest for Gold' aka 'Briganti' Season 2 update
The renewal of 'Brigands: The Quest for Gold' for a second season remains uncertain for now. There is no news of Netflix greenlighting the project for season 2 and there is no word from the production company Fabula Pictures too about a Season 2.
But, if you are a fan of the series, this doesn't necessarily mean bad news as it is too early for Netflix to gauge the popularity of this show. Once the streaming numbers and reviews are in, they will assess the verdict given to the show by critics and audiences as a whole.
If the show is popular and the overall reception is good, they might be willing to renew the series for a second season. The final episode of the series leaves a lot of issues unresolved so it might be possible that the makers do have a plan for a second season but are waiting for a response to officially announce it.
What could 'Brigands: The Quest for Gold' aka 'Briganti' Season 2 be about?
'Brigands: The Quest for Gold' Season 1 ends with Felomina telling Ciccilla (Ivana Lotito) that she wants Schiavone aka Sparrowhawk dead. She wants to avenge her betrayal.
Francesco Guerra (Giulio Beranek) is yet to learn about Michelina, her lover's fate, and would want to work with the brigands to free her from the clutches of Fumel(Pietro Micci). The second season could also explore the backstory of Michelina and how she became the leader of the brigands. The antagonist Fumel is still alive and would want his gold back. He will be coming to hunt the brigands.
The second season could also give a justification to Schiavone's motives and explain why he betrayed the brigands. Jurillo's (Federico Ielapi) character came into his own in the final episode as he killed Marchetta (Gianmarco Vettori). He could turn out to be an important character in the second season too.
'Brigands: The Quest for Gold' aka 'Briganti' Season 1 is streaming on Netflix from April 23, 2024.
