Is 'Pushing Daisies' returning for season 3? Creator Bryan Fuller teases ABC series' next chapter
'Pushing Daisies' was a comedy-fantasy show that proved to be way ahead of its time. When it first premiered on ABC in 2007, the show took audiences by surprise and cemented a dedicated following. After suffering a reversal with its 2009 cancellation, fans have consistently demanded a return of their beloved show. As per a Deadline report, 'Pushing Daisies' creator Bryan Fuller recently hinted at the third season moving forward.
While promoting his most recent film, 'Dust Bunny', Fuller was approached by The Mary Sue for an update regarding the fate of the show. Fuller responded by saying, "Well, we're working on a season 3, and the whole cast wants to come back. And, we've got a whole story. We're trying to do another season this year." He went on to reiterate this in another interview with ComicBook during the same promotional tour, "We have a season 3 pitch, and the entire cast wants to come back, and we're hoping we get to return to them. We just have to find somebody who wants to make it."
'Pushing Daisies' was led by Lee Pace's Ned, who was a pie-maker with a rather unusual power. Ned was able to bring dead things or people back to life with a single touch. However, his superpower came with a few conditions. If Ned happened to revive someone for a duration of more than a minute, someone else nearby had to die to make up for it. Also, if Ned were to touch someone whom he's revived a second time, then they would die forever.
Alongside Ned, the other characters on the show included Kristin Chenoweth's Olive Snook, who was Ned's colleague. Chi McBride played private investigator Emerson Cod and was seen teaming up with Ned multiple times to solve murders. The rest of the cast comprised Swoosie Kurtz, Field Cate, Ellen Greene, and Jim Dale. The comedy show was duly recognized at the Emmy Awards and ended up with a total of seventeen nominations and seven wins, chief among them being Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
Pace, on his part, fondly remembers the time he spent on the show and shed light on a potential third season while talking with TVInsider, "I haven’t heard anything definite, I love those people. I love Bryan, so I love that character. We’ll see. Bryan Fuller is one of the most creative people I’ve ever met, and he’s told me where he sees it going. I obviously can’t say that here, but it’s so fun and so wild. And then, the story between Ned and Chuck is such an interesting love affair." All episodes of 'Pushing Daisies' are available for streaming on HBO Max.
