Will Smith decided to take a swing at Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27. The moment, initially met with shock and anger, quickly transitioned into meme material for the entire internet. As jokes continued to be made, one eagle-eyed Twitter user spotted a Wikipedia entry about the incident, further affirming its occurrence in the digital world. Clearly meant as a joke, the entry poked fun at the whole thing with a rather hilarious take.

Rock's GI Jane joke may not have gone down well with Smith initially, but the actor later apologized for his actions. While accepting his award for Best Lead Actor, Smith broke down and said, "We got to be able to take abuse." The moment did steal a bit of thunder from the rest of the ceremony, including 'Summer Of Soul', which won the award for Best Documentary Feature.

The scandal quickly became the talk of the town, while videos of the incident circulated widely on social media. As with all events, this too got a mention on Wikipedia, but clearly, the truth wasn't what the editor was going for. Instead, it seemed like just another in the long line of jokes targeting Smith.

The Tragedy of Will Smith

While the edit now appears to have been taken down, Twitter user Hannah Strong was able to quickly grab a screenshot for posterity. "The devil works hard but the updater of the Macbeth Wikipedia page works harder," she commented while sharing a screenshot of the hilarious entry. According to the editor, Smith slapped Rock because he "congratulated Denzel Washington on his performance in The Tragedy of Macbeth, verbally saying the name of the Scottish play aloud in the Dolby Theatre."

Of course, that's not what really happened. Rock did joke about Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, given that the couple made Oscars history. He then mocked Jada's bald look, which led to him being hit by Smith. It appears the editor simply found it funny that both Washington and Smith featured in films adapted from Shakespeare's literature. Washington was also nominated for Best Actor for his role in 'The Tragedy of Macbeth', while Smith eventually won the award for his portrayal in 'King Richard'.

Strong's tweet has since received nearly 1,000 retweets and over 3,000 likes. A handful of users who clearly saw the funny side also responded with comments like "Golden" and "ooh, that's very good." The fun also continued with a variety of other memes and jokes, so it seems like Smith is going to have a hard time living this down.

For fans of the actor, the good news is it seems like he won't face charges. Apparently, Rock isn't too keen on pressing charges, and it appears the Academy has handled the situation in-house. However, that doesn't mean Smith is completely out of the woods. According to one historian, this is the first example of a physical altercation at the Oscars, so it appear Smith is definitely going down in history,
