What's known is that 'Avengers: Doomsday' will see the return of some original X-Men characters. The likes of Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden will reprise their roles as Professor Charles Xavier, Magneto, and Cyclops, who will return after the third 'Doomsday' trailer showed their entrance into the MCU.

Now, if rumors are to be believed, Famke Janssen will reprise her role as Jean Grey in the upcoming film. In a recent interview with Chris Claremont, the renowned Marvel and X-Men comic writer, Janssen's character will return. "The thing I find most wonderful about it is they're bringing back the original cast, including Famke," Claremont said, per ScreenRant. Previously, the writer's comment on Chris Evans returning in 'Doomsday' proved to be true, as shown from the movie's first mini teaser. Marvel Studios has yet to confirm Janssen's appearance.

Janssen played Grey from the 'X-Men' to a cameo in ' X-Men: Days of Future Past'. Her character as Phoenix died in 'X-Men: The Last Stand' (2006), and the role was later played by 'Game of Thrones' star Sophie Turner in the later films.

Previously, Janssen had revealed she wouldn't be returning as Grey. "Yeah, to be honest with you, I don’t really know the storyline, so I’m not sure," she told the outlet. "It’s not my world, it’s never been my world, really, that whole comic book world. I should know by now, I’ve been in it long enough. But I’m really excited to see when it comes out. Just like everyone else, I’ll find out what those storylines are and how it all ended up."

She also added that Marvel Studios had not reached out to reprise the role. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Never. Never. I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people,” she remarked. “It's been so long, but it's nice that people are still talking about her. I'm sure every single time there's a new movie that they're doing, like [is it] Doomsday? ... it'll come up again."

At the time of writing, the cast includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.

Also starring are Florence Pugh as White Widow, Kelsey Grammer as the Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M'Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

'Avengers: Doomsday' releases in cinemas on 18 December.
