As the Internet is buzzing with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s heated argument in the courtroom, many people have started to bet on who is going to win. Truth be told, the majority online seems to veer toward Johnny Depp. Be it on Twitter, YouTube, Instagram or other social media sites, a lot of comments are pro-Depp and we may never know why until the truth gets revealed.

During Depp's cross-examination in a Virginia courtroom on Thursday, April 21, 2022, the lawyer directing the interrogation read another text Depp made about his ex-wife, Amber Heard. It read, “Hopefully that c**t’s rotting corpse is decomposing in the f**king trunk of a honda civic.” The trial's live stream chat was quickly flooded with YouTube comments, with spectators giggling at the message. One of them said, "LOL Honda Civic." Incensed pro-Depp fans watching the proceedings replied with repeated calls for "Justice for Johnny Depp" and "Free Johnny."

The two actors are presently in court after Depp filed a $50 million defamation claim against Heard in response to an op-ed she penned in the Washington Post in 2018 about her experiences with domestic abuse.  Heard has since filed a counterclaim for damages in the amount of $100 million, which the jury will also consider. Both reject charges of sexual misconduct and the trial is ongoing for the court to figure out what really happened.

While there are still many weeks left for the verdict to come, many have already decided that Depp will be the one who won. They have their reasons as well. One person on Twitter wrote, “The audio that Amber team played of Johnny Depp self harming, vomiting or begging for their medicines was very triggering for me... The fact that they used it to try to make him look bad is disgusting #JusticeForJohhnyDepp” while another said, “Congratulations team Amber Heard on proving your client abused Johnny Depp to the point of self harming. And then make him listen to it until he got teary and stop there. He can’t even talk about it to anyone because he is a witness. That is abuse. #JusticeForJohnnyDepp”.

Fans or those vested in the case have posted thousands of Tiktoks, memes and videos and edited them in such a manner so as to paint Depp as the victim and Heard as the aggressor in the case. There have been armchair experts, Tiktokers trying to play the expert and decode the trial playing out in court, in fact one of them even claimed that Heard with her outfits mimicking Depp's in court was psychologically trying to intimidate him. Viewers, many anonymous, accused Heard of being a "monster" and a "Karen." They called her "manipulative, calculating, and quite possibly a con artist,” as well as "faking crying" in the courtroom. Other viewers ridiculed her hair and clothes, and called her "bipolar."

Another person stated, “I have to say Johnny Depp's team ending his testimony with the audio of Amber saying "...tell them, I, Johnny Depp, a man, am a victim of domestic violence...and see how many people believe or side with you," was probably one of the most powerful moments thus far.” Another person wrote, “Amber Heard’s team have spent the entire day cross examining Johnny Depp and STILL have no case that their client was ever abused. The only thing they’ve achieved is remind a survivor of abuse how he wanted to d!e and leaving him with that for three days...#JusticeForJohnnyDepp.” What are your thoughts?

A few theorize that one of the reasons for this outpouring of support for Depp in the case could stem from the fact that they associate him with the characters he’s portrayed in films such as Captain Jack Sparrow from Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and the titular “Edward Scissorhands” from the 1990 Tim Burton film.
