'Was enjoying before Katy Perry butted in': 'American Idol' judge slammed for interrupting Mariah Faith's audition
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: This week's 'American Idol' tryouts were started off by Mariah Faith. Although the 22-year-old up-and-coming talent managed to win the Golden Ticket, fans were dismayed by Katy Perry's interruption of her performance.
The tryouts for 'American Idol' will continue on March 19, and Mariah Faith will take the stage to face the judges. Faith has come all the way from a small town in South Carolina to begin this new phase. She was born in Baltimore, but her family moved to Conway when her mother married her husband. She also describes him as an "amazing man." Faith started singing with the help of her dad who died in 2019 from cardiac arrest. In December, she wrote about her ten-month abstinence. Mariah has 47.3K TikTok fans and a viral film about hair with 3.6 million views so far.

Mariah Faith's audition interrupted by Katy Perry
Mariah starts her tryout with a cover of "Whenever You Come Around" by Vince Gill. Her singing is stunning. But Katy cuts her Vince Gill version short, stating that she is being cautious. She changes to Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me," and Katy tells her not to back down. Fans were upset because they believe Katy should have given her an opportunity to flesh out her music before stopping her. Mariah appeared to have pitch issues, and even in the refrain, where she could let loose, she holds back. Katy wishes her to improvise, so she does.
"You've just got it all," Luke Bryan exclaims. Lionel Richie believes she has the ability to go far. Katy remarks on her "natural cry," adding, "You are a star, you’ve got it." One of the season's most intriguing personalities. She receives three yesses and is on her journey to Hollywood.
They reveal that Mariah will open for Noah Thompson and HunterGirl, the 'American Idol' champion, and runner-up, who are performing the following night in Las Vegas. We've returned from break and have arrived at the performance. They both introduce her. They are heavily promoting this artist. We see her singing with more assurance than she did during her tryout.
'Sick of Katy Perry'
Fans took to social media to talk about Mariah's performance and they noted, "KINDA had a feeling Katy was gonna stop Mariah!" Another viewer blasted the judge as they write, "Katy shut the hell up." They further added, "I was enjoying it before Katy butted in." One fan tweeted, "I'm sick of Katy Perry and Luke Bryant. Please find new judges. Keep Lionel."

Fans even called out the show as they write, "Mariah Faith is talented & has a really cool voice but it's silly for @AmericanIdol to think the viewers don't realize that "opening act" stunt wasn't scripted. At least try to be subtle." Questioning the judges, a fan wrote, "why they giving mariah a hard time . she was great first song."
