NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In Monday's edition of 'The View,' Whoopi Goldberg made a significant change in her appearance. Although she has worn glasses for 28 years, Goldberg presented the show without them and revealed during the 'Hot Topics' show that she had undergone eye surgery last weekend. On Monday's edition of 'The View,' the 67-year-old Oscar winner shared that she had a bionic lens implanted in her left eye due to presbyopia, an age-related form of farsightedness.

"I had an operation, and they replaced the lens and the lens they replaced it with is kind of like my eyeglass lens," the 67-year-old said. "Two weeks ago, when we had a show with the folks from'Picard,'" Goldberg said, "I was trying to read the prompter without my actual glasses, and I couldn't do it, so I ended up having to wear them [my glasses]." The 'Sister Act' actor stated that the treatment was done to address presbyopia. She added that the reason the lenses were replaced was that she had "teeny tiny" cataracts on the lens of her eye, New York Post reported.

Whoopi Goldberg apologizes AGAIN! This time for using racial slur against Donald Trump on 'The View'

Whoopi Goldberg says goodbye to glasses

On 'The View' last Wednesday, Goldberg made a comment that was widely regarded as a racist remark towards the Romani community. She spoke of "people who still believe that he got gy—d somehow in the election" when addressing Donald Trump and Stormy Daniels' hush-money tryst. Following her recent on-air dispute, Goldberg made her announcement of the eye operation. In the segment, Goldberg advised viewers to have their eyes examined if they were having any visual problems. "The bionic times have arrived," Goldberg stated.

"I've been wearing glasses now for almost 28 years. If you're over 28, you know what I looked like before, when I was wearing sunglasses or cool glasses because they were cool," the Oscar-winning star said. "If you're under 28, you don't know that there was a time that I didn't have glasses, and now, this is what I look like! You know, it's not so bad," she added.

What is presbyopia?

According to the National Eye Institute, adults in middle age and older have difficulty seeing details at close range because they have a refractive error known as presbyopia. It occurs because the lens, an internal component of the eye that helps focus, does not effectively focus light on the retina. Age-related presbyopia is a common phenomenon. Everyone develops presbyopia as they age, usually beyond the age of 45.

Symptoms of presbyopia include problems seeing at close range, holding books at long distances to bring them into focus, eye fatigue (eyes feel tired or sore), and headaches. Although presbyopia worsens over time, it often stops after age 65.

'You look great without glasses!'

Congrats on not needing the glasses I think that surgery is the same as what my eye dr recommended but the expense!! Can’t afford it! Maybe someday." "You are so beautiful, now that we can see your beautiful face," exclaimed another.
