Mandana Karimi can be best described as the controversy's favorite child. The 32-year-old Iranian model-turned-actress became a household name following her stint on the popular Indian reality show 'Bigg Boss'. As we gear up to see Mandana on Netflix's upcoming show 'The Big Day: Collection 2'. we wanted to take a closer look at this beautiful actress's life which seems to be jam-packed with controversies.

Who is Mandana Karimi?

Mandana Karimi was born as Manizeh Karimi in Tehran, Iran. She's an Iranian actress who is best known for her work in Indian movies and television. Prior to becoming a Bollywood star, Mandana was an air hostess. But as several modeling offers began pouring in, the 32-year-old beauty decided to quit her job and focus on modeling. She soon became a very successful model with projects across the globe. 

She then slowly began receiving offers from India.

In 2015, when Mandana was beginning to quickly gain popularity with her stint on 'Bigg Boss', her relationship status in the wake of her newly rediscovered marriage certificate grabbed headlines. A marriage certificate allegedly belonging to Mandana and model Lalit Tehlan began doing rounds. The certificate originally came to light in 2011. 

According to the certificate, the Iranian beauty married the former boyfriend of designer Rohit Bal on February 19, 2011, at Arya Samaj, When the certificate first made headlines, Mandana squashed all rumors of her marriage by claiming that she was only dating Lalit and wasn't married to him. However, according to reports, the duo married only to help Mandana get an Indian passport.



 

Mandana Kamini accuses her husband and his family of domestic violence against her

Mandana shocked everybody when she announced her engagement in July 2016, to her longtime boyfriend Gaurav Gupta. Gupta, a businessman from Mumbai had met the actress through a friend and began dating shortly after their meeting. The couple had a lavish wedding in January 2017. In July 2017, the actress filed a domestic violence case against her husband and his family. She accused her husband and his family of asking her to quit her career after marriage and was reportedly even barred from entering her house. She was allegedly harassed by her mother-in-law and was thrown out of her matrimonial house, just a few months after the wedding. She withdrew her case hoping to reconcile with her husband and in-laws, but they didn't accept her back. 

In an interview with Hindustan Times, the actress shared, "It took me three months to get back into shape. I had always been strong and independent. It was unfortunate that what I thought about marriage (it didn’t turn out to be like that). But this doesn’t make my ex-husband or me a bad person. In the beginning, I would question ‘why me?’ Now, I know it’s just life and could happen to anybody.”

At the peak of MeToo movement in India, Mandana came forward with her own horror story of how she was harassed at the hands of Sajid Khan. The actress accused the filmmaker of asking her to expose her body to him in exchange for a role in one of his movies in 2014. She claimed that although he already had her pictures he still reportedly insisted on seeing her naked in person, as reported by Economic Times.

Mandana will soon be making an appearance on Netflix's upcoming reality show 'The Big Day: Collection 2'. Netflix's reality show will give us a peek into everything that goes behind these extravagant celebrations. From sharing their love story, to discussing their dream wedding plans, the young brides and grooms featured on this show are ready to bare it all, in order to have their dreamy big wedding.  

'The Big Day: Collection 2' will be available for streaming on Netflix following its premiere on April 7.
