Sunwoo, the main rapper and one of the vocalists of 4th generation K-pop sensation The Boyz, have made quite a name for himself along with the group’s trajectory of spectacular progress. The Boyz, a 11-piece K-pop act of Cre.ker Entertainment debuted in 2017 and within a year, nabbed three Best new male artist trophies, making them one of the mainstream Kpop groups to look forward to.

Who is Sunwoo?

Sunwoo, 20, real name Kim Sun-woo hails from Busan, South Korea, shares his hometown with BTS Jung Kook, Jimin, and soloist Kang Daniel, making him one of the famous Busan Boys who made it big in the K-pop industry. Sunwoo first appeared in the South Korean survival hip-hop TV show ‘High School Rapper’ in 2017 but got eliminated early in the competition. Later he debuted with the Kpop group The Boyz.



 

Who is Younghoon?

Younghoon aka Kim Young-hoon debuted in ‘The Boyz’ as one of the main vocalists and visual of the group. The 23-year-old singer earlier worked as a model for Cube entertainment and appeared in multiple music videos including I.O.I’s ‘Whatta Man’ MV and John Park’s ‘DND (Do Not Disturb)’ MV. Younghoon, in his debut interview, talked about his inspiration being BTS V aka Kim Taehyung. A Korean report reveals that the BTS singer V himself sent The Boyz member his signature plushie Tata 21 as a sweet gesture which was spotted with Younghoon almost everywhere.



 

A brief look at their friendship

Sunwoo and Younghoon, though three years apart in age, share a rather strong friendship. The duo also seems to be the most confident ones about winning any trophy in the group. In 2018, Younghoon boasted in an interview, “We’ll always win,” while Sunwoo chimed in saying, “When the number ones get together, they get the first punch. If we show that to our fans, they’ll be surprised and fall in love with us again.”

The duo appeared in a recent Vlive of Sunwoo where they answered a bunch of fan questions along with revealing what’s going on with the group. Sunwoo also talked about how the fans known as ‘Deobis’ have helped him raise his self-esteem. He said, “I can’t help but have high self-esteem, because I have Deobis! I think that’s really a blessing (to me). Deobis raise my self-esteem, so I also want to become someone who can raise Deobis’ self-esteem!” When Younghoon appeared in the stream, the duo started a friendly banter where they asked fans to choose of them and Younghoon complained that the fans should only look at him. The Boyz have seen tremendous growth in their career within three years of joining. In 2018, the group nabbed the Rookie Award during the Korea Brand Awards, Best Rookie Award at the Soribada Best K-Music Awards along with the Best New Male Artist Award at the 2018 Melon Music Awards. In 2020, the Boyz are as formidable as ever with their Mnet reality show win ‘Road to Kingdom’. Next, the group will be competing in the Mnet Show ‘Kingdom’ with Stray Kids and Ateez.
