CULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA: Since Ken Jennings, the show's current host, ended his 74-game winning streak, 'Jeopardy!' has definitely become less predictable. Even though the defending champion might be more likely and more certain to win, the outcomes frequently surprise people.

The returning champion, Alex Gordon, missed his chance to return for additional victories on Monday, July 10 episode, which resulted in James Tyler being the new 'Jeopardy!' champion. Here is everything we know about our current champion before he makes his subsequent appearance on the forthcoming episode of the game show.

Who is James Tyler?

Tyler's 'Jeopardy!' profile calls him a Senior Editor from Blandon, Pennsylvania. His LinkedIn profile further reveals that he works at ESPN FC. "Can't really play soccer too well any more, but rather good at covering the sport and at every step of the editing process," the profile description says. He has been employed by ESPN for the previous 11 years, rising to the level of Editor before that. He has written for Kaplan as well as other publishing industry behemoths including Penguin Random House and HarperCollins.

Tyler earned his BA in Political Science with majors in French and English from Penn State University. He speaks German as well as French. At the university, he played rugby as a member of a college team.

How did James Tyler win?

While it takes a pool of knowledge and quick thinking to become a 'Jeopardy!' champ, luck also comes in handy when you are behind the podium as a contestant. Tyler had both brains and luck on his side for this episode as he managed to garner a sum of $14,200 by the end of the game.

But if it were not for the former returning champion Gordon's blunder with the Daily Double, it would have been near impossible for him to win. Gordon lost $12,000 of his leading score to the round which placed him first on the ranks. Tyler also missed out on answering correctly for the Final Jeopardy round, which Gordon was able to succeed in. But to his luck, the wager didn't make any difference to his score and he managed to retain his position for the next episode.
