LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: El Cucuy, Francia Raisa's father, claims that his daughter stopped talking to her former BFF Selena Gomez because the singer continued to drink after the 'Grown-ish' alum donated the singer a kidney. During a recent interview on 'Primer Impacto' earlier this year, Raisa's father confirmed rumors that the former friends had a falling out five years after donating a kidney to the popstar in 2017.

Raisa's father conversed in Spanish during the interview on the Spanish news program, where the radio host insisted that "it was no secret what happened between" his 34-year-old daughter and the twice-nominated Grammy winner. El Cucuy claimed the two had a "disagreement" regarding Gomez's alleged drinking after the transplant, which upset Raisa, as per TMZ's translation of his interview.

Who is El Cucuy?

The father of 'How I Met Your Father' actress Francia Raisa is well-known Spanish radio personality Renan Almendarez Coello, also known as "El Cucuy." Almendarez Coello is Honduran-American while his wife and Raisa's mother Virginia Almendarez is Mexican. El Cucuy shed a lot of light on what happened between the two former best friends Gomez and Raisa. He asserted that it was typical of what occurs when love, money, and fame are involved, as per Opoyi.

Almendarez Coello, who was questioned about Raisa's absence from Gomez's newest documentary, 'My Mind & Me', verified persistent rumors that the two women had an argument. He declared on 'Primer Impacto' in November that "Love, money and fame changes the whole world, including Selena." He continues by explaining that Francia and Selena had a dispute when the singer was drinking. "There’s a difference when Selena is drinking," Coello said. Raisa allegedly alerted the 'Wolves' singer that "she didn't give her a kidney so she could go out and drink," placing stress on the organ.

Her worries are justified since, according to the National Health Service (NHS), "regularly drinking alcohol above the maximum recommended limits can raise your blood pressure, which can be dangerous for people with a kidney transplant," per Daily Mail.

'Francia Raisa gave me the ultimate gift'

Gomez has previously been candid about her battle with lupus. She disclosed in October 2015 that she underwent chemotherapy to address the autoimmune condition, and she took a vacation from the spotlight in August 2016 to check into a rehab facility in Tennessee to deal with anxiety and despair that were purportedly brought on by her lupus, reported Page Six. In 2017, Gomez received a new kidney from her longtime friend, Raisa.

The singer took to her Instagram to pay gratitude to Raisa for her "ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney." Gomez expressed her gratitude to her physicians, family, friends, and hospital staff for their care, but she was most grateful to her best friend, dancer, and actress Francia Raisa, who had donated the kidney. They first met when they were young actors and were once inseparable. However, things quickly turned to the left.

What happened between the BFFs?

The women were said to be at odds when Gomez referred to Taylor Swift as her "only friend in the industry" last year. "I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong," Gomez said to Rolling Stone in November. In an Instagram post, Raisa responded to the interview by commenting the word "Interesting" and then deleting it.

Raisa is remaining silent about their friendship in the meantime. She refused to comment when a TMZ photographer questioned her on April 30 about why she still doesn't follow Gomez on social media. She did reveal to the media, a week later, that she was being harassed online by the followers of her former BFF, reports Page Six.
