‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ episode 3 ending explained: Who dies in this episode?
Episode 3 of ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ takes Stuart, Bert, Denise, and Barry Kripke into another bizarre universe. In this reality, magic exists, science is treated as evil, and familiar faces return in completely different roles. The episode builds toward a life-or-death showdown, leaving many viewers wondering if anyone actually dies before the credits roll. The episode begins with Bert Kibbler facing execution for being a scientist. Just before he is burned at the stake, he accidentally summons rain.
However, it becomes clear that Bert has genuinely developed magical powers, completely changing his fate. Far from becoming a victim, he turns into one of the most powerful magicians in this world. He attracts followers and uses his new gifts throughout the entire episode. He makes drinks with just a wave of his hand, makes a cute puppy appear out of nowhere, and enjoys his newfound power.
In the meantime, Stuart and Barry Kripke are looking for someone to fix their broken time machine. They find Bernadette, who says that she has lost her magic powers. She tells Stuart that she needs a little of his blood to restore her magic, and then she will help them return home. Stuart places trust in her instantly. The consequence follows almost immediately. After consuming Stuart's blood, Bernadette immediately transforms into an 80-foot demon and turns against the group, intending to take on the quantum device. As soon as she breaks free from the spell that has weakened her, her real form emerges. Stuart finds himself deceived, but the situation is beyond repair.
There are grave consequences for his mistake. Stuart then faces a death sentence for helping Bernadette restore her powers, despite not knowing that she is a demon. Wil Wheaton acts as a representative of the Wizards Guild to implement the consequences against Stuart. There really is nothing Stuart can do to avoid being executed. It is at this point that Bert enters. With his magic powers, he attacks Wil Wheaton with fireballs and animated animals. One of the highlights of his attack is the horn sign, a classic heavy metal gesture. The fight blends fantasy action with the show's usual comedy and ends with Bert defeating Wil before Stuart is killed.
By the end of the episode, every member of the core group survives. Stuart escapes execution. Bert remains alive after winning the battle and also helps defeat Wil Wheaton. Neither Denise nor Kripke suffers any major damage. Bernadette makes it out alive despite revealing herself to be a demon. So, while no major character from the core group dies, Wil Wheaton is killed. Stuart comes dangerously close to execution, but Bert's newly discovered magical powers save him at the last moment.
There is a lot of suspense about Stuart's fate in this episode, but it never goes beyond the actual killing of the main character. The ending shifts the emphasis to the next quest, where we see Stuart placed in what appears to be an asylum, thus teasing us with yet another odd universe awaiting the characters. It also implies that the show is beginning to weave together the separate stories it has been telling up to now.
