‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 heads to new location as creator teases details: ‘We are going...'
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' aims to address a major problem in many popular television shows: the excruciating wait between seasons. As part of a new policy announced by HBO CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys, fan-favourite shows such as 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' are now aiming to be annual events, with a new season arriving each year. The recently concluded debut season generated enough fanfare, and anticipation is high for the show's upcoming sophomore season. As revealed earlier, the second instalment of the show will be based on the novella 'The Sworn Sword', from the 'Dunk and Egg' series written by author George R. R. Martin.
To begin with, there are several differences between Seasons 1 and 2. While the debut season was set against the picturesque backdrop of the Ashford tourney and was reminiscent of the classic 'Game of Thrones' template, the second season will find Peter Claffey's Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell's Prince Aegon 'Egg' Targaryen in a dry landscape that is besieged by a terrible drought. The classic duo will help negotiate a peace treaty between two noble houses, both claiming ownership of the river that flows between their holdfasts. While most of the first season was filmed in Belfast, Ireland, the second season will be filmed in Spain, as revealed by showrunner Ira Parker in an interview with IGN. The interior scenes will continue to be filmed at the Titanic Studios in Ireland.
Parker mentioned, "We are going to drier pastures in Spain for (the drought scenes). Except that the location that was meant to be our dry riverbed is now a fully flowing river after getting rain for the first time in ten years at this location, and so now has sent us scrambling and searching for changes at this late date.” It is worth mentioning in this regard that Spain was the preferred filming location for several scenes in 'Game of Thrones', with King's Landing being the chief location.
Parker further reflected that if "Season 1 really is about fathers and sons and what's passed on to the next generation," then Season 2 will feature themes of "loyalty and maybe against blind loyalty." He further added, "We're pretty faithful to the book, again, I would say little flourishes here and there, but we did a lot of that in Season 1 as well. It should all feel inherent to the world and to Dunk's POV.” All episodes of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 1 are available for streaming on HBO Max, and the sophomore season is expected to arrive sometime in 2027.
