Will 'Industry' return for Season 5? HBO CEO Casey Bloys finally opens up: 'Industry' is a really...'
Amidst other big-budget behemoths like 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' and 'The Pitt' Season 2, 'Industry' on HBO has established itself as one of those moderate-budget ventures that mostly deliver successful returns. In addition to this, the popularity of 'Industry' has been chiefly due to the positive word-of-mouth phenomenon that surrounded each of its previous seasons. Indeed, it is no surprise that the HBO show has grown in prominence with every passing season. In this context, the show's fate and its potential season five renewal have become a cause for concern among fans.
As of this writing, there's no official confirmation about 'Industry' Season 5. The ongoing fourth season is expected to conclude after airing its eighth and final episode. 'Both, And' on March 1. As the key characters, including Marisa Abela's Yasmin Kara-Hanani and Kit Harington's Sir Henry Muck, continue to navigate through high-stakes financial operations, one can't help but speculate whether they shall return for a fifth season. Interestingly enough, 'Industry' still remains as one of those shows that polarizes network studio executives. Furthermore, Season 4 has seen a 40% rise in viewership from its previous season. On one hand, HBO brought in a few creative and logistical overhauls for Season 4, with the show moving to its new broadcast hour on Sunday midway through its run. On the other hand, 'Industry' doesn't instantly come across as a show that would run for a clear six or seven seasons.
The fact that the HBO show operates on a moderate budget might influence the network's decision to renew it. HBO's CEO and Chairman, Casey Bloys, recently sat down with Deadline for an exclusive interview, discussing in depth the future of several HBO shows, including 'Industry'. When asked about the show's future, given that it had been making waves among audiences, Bloys cryptically commented, 'You'll have to wait and see.'
The CEO and Chairman, however, were quite vocal about their fondness for the show. Bloys went on to add, "Industry is a really great story. First of all, it has grown. It’s unusual in that it has grown every season. And typically, we see growth within the season, and then when we bring back Season 2, Season 3, and Season 4, we’ve seen catch-up viewing on each previous season. So it’s been a nice effect." He then spoke about the growing cast of the show, and the way in which 'Industry' contributed to building their individual careers, when he explained, "And I’ll say, what’s nice about the show is everybody involved, Mickey and Konrad, the actors, everybody’s profile has grown exactly as you want to see with a show like this. It does prove again that TV makes stars. Seeing Myha’la and Marisa (Abela) and their profiles rise and Mickey and Konrad, how they’re running the show has been really exciting to see. So it’s really been a great success story for us, for our collaboration with Bad Wolf."
