When 'Renovation Island' premiered in 2019, fans were captivated by Bryan and Sarah Baeumler's transformation of a run-down 50-year-old hotel into a luxury resort. The Caerula Mar Club was built by converting the run-down Emerald Palms hotel.

'Renovation Island,' a hit HGTV show, follows the Baeumlers as they renovate Caerula Del Mar. Sarah and Bryan Baeumler relocated their family to the Bahamas' South Andros Island to establish their dream resort. They had six months to transform the decrepit property into the Caerula Mar Club. So, how is 'Renovation Island' now doing? Here's an update on the Baeumlers' dream in 2022.

The couple is originally from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Their hotel endeavor saw them transfer their home base to the location of the hotel, San Andros Island in the Bahamas, where they were already famous on Canadian TV following a number of DIY projects. When Sarah and Bryan Baeumler visited South Andros Island in 2017, they got the notion to remodel a house. According to Country Living, they discovered the 18-room, 22-villa holiday resort while there and decided to take it to the next level to build their own slice of heaven that others could enjoy. The pair obtained their show, 'Renovation Island', to chronicle their progress after pitching the idea to HGTV.

Caerula Del Mar officially opened its doors in April 2019. Sadly, they ran into difficulty with Hurricane Dorian right away. The hurricane that hit in August 2019 forced some of their staff to lose everything, but the resort itself was unharmed. The doors reopened in February 2020, just in time for the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). Bryan and Sarah planned to close the property in March 2020. So, how is 'Renovation Island' faring today, in the year 2022? Caerula Del Mar reopened in October 2020, with improved coronavirus measures in place. Per an Instagram post issued on June 16, 2022, they gave coronavirus screening to guests and now demand all unvaccinated guests arrive with a negative test. With this in mind, it appears that the new health measures are working effectively for the company.

In 2022, do the Baeumlers truly reside at the Renovation Island Resort?

The fact that the Baeumlers relocated their entire family to the island contributed to the series' popularity. Of course, there are concerns about the authenticity of the HGTV shows. Lately, people wondered if Jonathan and Drew Scott truly finished any of the renovations on 'Property Brothers'. Of course, there has been discussion over how real the Baeumler family's stay on the island was, but fans liked witnessing the young family's experiences, real or not.

Bryan explained ahead of the relocation, “We’re taking the whole herd on the boat over to the island, and we’ll spend the next year or so there. It’s a big project, and obviously a huge change in venue — we’ll be the fish out of water for the first time, but it’s going to be a great experience for the kids.” It was indeed. "This is the biggest change our family has faced and the largest project we've ever taken on," said Bryan, who added that the Baeumlers were risking "absolutely everything."

Is the family staying on the island for the upcoming season?

The Caerula Mar Club resort is officially open after a delay caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, but there is still plenty to do. That implies another season of the popular show is on the way. New episodes of the hit TV show are already streaming on HGTV Canada and will be available in the United States on July 24. Is the family still on the island, though? Evidently not.

“It’s a really transformative season for our family as we’re spending more time traveling back and forth to the island, settling the kids in South Florida, and continuing to manage and expand our businesses,” Bryan said in an interview with the Winnipeg Free Press. The renovator mentioned completing his pilot's license and purchasing a tiny plane. It appears that he and Sarah will be going between the two places, with the children joining them on occasion.

Florida is now the home base for the Baeumlers

Bryan and Sarah have chosen property in Florida so that they can easily travel back and forth to the Caerula Mar Club in an effort to restore some feeling of normalcy for their family. Of course, they never choose a simple path. The pair appears to be making modifications to their Florida home as the new season begins. The resort, which has 18 hotel rooms, 22 oceanfront villas, an in-ground pool, a spa, a clubhouse, a full-service restaurant, and a bar, also needs regular upkeep.

New episodes of HGTV's 'Renovation Island' will premiere on Sunday, July 24 at 9 pm ET. Discovery+ will also have access to the eight-episode season.
