Jonathan Rhys' much-awaited horror-comedy 'Widow's Bay' gets major release update
Apple TV dropped the first look at Matthew Rhys' horror-comedy series, 'Widow's Bay'. The ten-episode show makes its much-awaited debut with three episodes on April 29, 2026. The weekly episodes drop every Wednesday through June 17.
Per the official logline, "Widow’s Bay’ is a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no wifi, spotty cellular reception, and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed."
"He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again."
Joining Rhys are Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Caroll and Dale Dickey. Five episodes of the series were directed by Emmy-winner Hiro Murai. Other directors include Sam Donovan, Andrew DeYoung, and Ti West. Creator Katie Dippold serves as showrunner and executive producer.
Earlie, Rhys spoke of picking dark projects, and with 'Widow's Bay' blending a fair bit of horror, the actor's take is an interesting one. "To me, they’re wildly interesting, just for the psychology of it," he told Awards Buzz. "But to be perfectly honest, Beast in Me, I don’t get offered these kinds of parts. This was a real shock to me. When I read it, I was like, wait, they want me for Nile? Not the cop? They’re like, yes! So I was like, fuck yes, I will, thank you, please, may I? They’re just wildly interesting."
'Widow's Bay' premieres with three episodes on April 29, 2026.
