Bethesda head honcho drops disappointing update on potential 'Fallout' cameo
Todd Howard has officially quashed all possibilities of appearing on the 'Fallout' TV show, even in a cameo. The Bethesda boss was widely expected to make an appearance at some point in season 1 — as a ghoul, vault dweller, or any random character. However, there has been so sighting so far.
In a recent interview with Howard and Kevin Beatty, Head of Product for Samsung Gaming, Interactive Experiences, and Emerging Tech, Howard was asked if he would appear in the 'Fallout' show at any point in the future. "They've offered me a whole bunch, even in Season 1. I was going to be in the sort of Dr. Strangelove Vault-Tec room, where they're talking about all the experiments, and some other things. I think I'm best behind the camera." When asked if he didn't fancy being the Stan Lee of Bethesda, he had a crisp response: "Not at this time."
In related news, actor Justin Theroux spoke of his time on the show and his preparation for the role of Robert Edwin House. "Yeah, I watched a little bit of gameplay specific to New Vegas online," he told IGN. "And then I remember playing the first one when it came out a long time ago, but I really had to use the scripts as my touchstone for everything that was going to happen. Watching the gameplay wasn't as helpful as you might think. It was helpful just to understand the world and intellectually get it, but the actor who played him in the game [René Auberjonois] did a wonderful job and was so specific and good."
"And I certainly didn't want to do an impersonation of that because I thought that would just feel almost a disservice to the work that that actor had done," he added. "And this was also in New Vegas, or season two, it was the first time we were really seeing him not on a screen, flesh and blood. So I knew he had to have a physicality to him, and all that work had to happen away from the game. I had to figure out a way to carry myself, yeah."
Per the streamer, the official synopsis reads, "Based on one of the greatest video games of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them above." At the time of writing, 'Fallout' is gearing up for season 2 release on Prime Video. The hit show was originally slated to release on December 17, but its release was moved to an earlier date.
