'Running Point' Season 2 finally drops trailer and Kate Hudson's Isla Gordon is ready to swing into action
The debut season of 'Running Point' was met with wholehearted appreciation, and it is no wonder the show received an early renewal for its sophomore season. Netflix recently dropped the first complete trailer for the second season of 'Running Point,' which is scheduled to release on the streaming platform on April 23. Season 2 will pick up from where the debut season left off, chronicling the day-to-day grind of the LA Waves basketball team.
Kate Hudson and Justin Theroux will be reprising their leading characters of Isla Gordon and Cam, respectively, for the sophomore season. The other returning cast members include Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, and Drew Tarver. The trailer further suggested that Lisa Rinna, Octavia Spencer, Scott Speedman, Nicole Richie, and co-creator Ike Barinholtz will appear in guest roles in the upcoming season. In terms of the plot, Season 2 will deal with the aftermath of the shocking scandal that transpired in the debut season. Gordon is not only determined to keep her brother Cam's seat warm within the team, following his exit in the wake of the scandal, but also to lead the LA Waves to ultimate victory. Cam, on the other hand, will try his best to win back his reputation, using every misfortune as fuel for his journey.
The debut season of the show was written and executive-produced by Mindy Kaling, Barinholtz, and David Stassen. Speaking in a recent interview with Tudum, Kaling noted, "We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show. We still cannot believe the response from audiences — thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and, of course, executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.” 'Running Point' is inspired by the real-life exploits of Lakers owner and president Jeanie Buss. Lakers' manager of special projects, Linda Rambis, is also on board as an executive producer.
Apart from the returning stars, the second season of 'Running Point' will also feature several new additions to the cast. Tommy Dewey will play Magnus, the general manager of the Toronto Trappers. Ken Marino will be seen as Al Fleischman, the self-appointed toilet king of Orange County. Jake Picking will portray the character of LA Waves’ new star point guard Tommy White, while Richa Moorjani appears as LA Waves' star accountant Aruna, who has a penchant for navigating tricky financial hurdles. Blake Anderson is Cam's wild and sober companion, while Duby Maduegbunam will play the newest member of the LA Waves.
