‘Pluribus’ Season 2 gets discouraging release date update after jaw-dropping cliffhanger finale
Apple TV+’s 'Pluribus' quickly became one of 2025’s most unexpected breakout hits, thanks to its bold concept and compelling storytelling. The first season wrapped up with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, showing Carol (Rhea Seehorn) returning home by helicopter with a mysterious piece of cargo, leaving fans wondering if it could even be an atomic bomb. While viewers are eagerly waiting to see where the story goes in Season 2, surprising and unwelcome news about the show’s future has now emerged, catching fans completely off guard.
The main concern for 'Pluribus' is the long wait for its return, as Apple TV+ sci-fi fans fear a delay similar to Severance's three-year gap between seasons. Despite an early renewal, it's unlikely the series will return in under two years, as per Forbes. 'Pluribus' took nearly two years from the start of filming in February 2024 to its release in November 2025, and Season 2 could face a similar timeline. The writers' room is reportedly active and filming may begin in spring 2026. That schedule would likely push the show's return to late 2027 at the earliest, or even into 2028 with any delays.
Fans of 'Pluribus' are also frustrated by the long wait for season 2, especially after the first season ended on a cliffhanger. The show's engaging mystery is similar to 'Severance,' making the anticipated two-year gap between seasons feel especially maddening. The sci-fi shown also reunites Seehorn with 'Better Call Saul' creator Vince Gilligan for 'Pluribus,' playing jaded novelist Carol, one of the few survivors of a hivemind virus linking the world in apparent harmony.
For the unversed, 'Pluribus' Season 1 explores both the practical implications and the dark consequences of this seemingly utopian society, as per Radio Times. In addition to Seehorn, 'Pluribus' also features a breakout performance from Karolina Wydra, marking her major comeback after a five-year acting hiatus without an agent.
Talking about the plotline for the season, Seehorn admitted she's unsure where 'Pluribus' will go next, telling Deadline, "As far as the finale, I loved it. I was immediately, desperately needing season 2. They are in the writers' room now, and I have not asked any questions yet. I might just be surprised, right along with the audience."
On her character, she added, "I hope to just keep getting to play with the complexity and the incredible authenticity of how human he's allowing her to be and allowing me to play her. She really is this ultimate reluctant hero that is an 'everyman,' which I think is really fun up against his sci-fi backdrop, because she's often behaving in ways that are not the best, but many of us can completely identify with why."
