'Deadloch' Season 2 gets major release update as Prime Video drops 'tropic goth' trailer
The debut season of 'Deadloch' was a massive success on Prime Video, ranking among the top 10 lists across 165 countries, including the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. As a testament to the show's growing popularity, Prime Video promptly renewed it for a sophomore season. The streaming platform recently dropped the first full-length trailer for Season 2 of 'Deadloch,' and it exemplifies the 'Tropical Gothic' era the show claims to be entering.
"Does Barra Creek get many body parts lodged inside dead reptiles?" asks Detective Dulcie Collins in bewilderment as she examines a crocodile in the opening moments of the trailer. The rest of the trailer is set against a tropically humid backdrop, with reptiles, predators, and the show's overall exotic zeitgeist. Kate Box portrays the character of Collins, while that of her on-screen partner, Australian detective Eddie Redcliffe, is played by Madeleine Sami.
The plot of the upcoming season follows both Redcliffe and Collins as they travel to the hot, humid Top End of Australia. Initially investigating the death of Redcliffe's former cop buddy Bushy, the detective duo is soon drawn into a detour after the mysterious discovery of a dead body part in the remote location of Barra Creek. On the other hand, the Northern Territory police force is tasked with launching a large-scale operation to investigate the disappearance of two backpackers. As a result, the responsibility for uncovering John Doe's identity falls to Redcliffe and Collins.
Sarah Christie, head of Australian and New Zealand originals at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed in a recently released statement, "We cannot wait to share Season Two of Deadloch with fans worldwide on March 20. Season One proved that authentic and bold storytelling transcends borders, fast becoming both a critical success and cultural phenomenon not just in Australia, but internationally. The success of Deadloch is a testament to the creative force of Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, who have again delivered a brilliant, funny, and moving second season, this time taking audiences to the sweltering and utterly unique world of the Top End."
Alicia Gardiner reprises her role of Collins's possessive wife, Cath. The remaining cast consists of newcomers Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Jean Tong, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Luke Hemsworth, Anthony J. Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ines English, Lennox Monaghan, Reiden Corpus, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, and Storm Murgha. The show is written and created by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, who also serve as executive producers. Tanya Phegan, Kevin Whyte, and Ben Grogan from Guesswork Television are the other executive producers on the show, which is produced by Andy Walker and directed by Beck Cole and Gracie Otto. 'Deadloch' season two arrives on March 20 on Prime Video.
