Regency-era England, with its lavish ballrooms and exquisite costumes, is all set to make a comeback on the fourth season of Netflix's 'Bridgerton'. The hit show from Shondaland recently dropped the first trailer for its upcoming season, which will be available on the streaming platform in two parts, comprising four episodes each. While the trailer does a commendable job of transporting the viewer back into the pages of history that marked the raging success of the first three seasons of the show, based on author Julia Quinn's book series, the showstopper of the next season is a forbidden romance across class lines between the bohemian Benedict Bridgerton and the working-class maid Sophie Baek.

"You simply must marry. You just haven't met the right young lady," Lady Violet says in the opening moments of the trailer to her son Benedict, played by Luke Thompson. As per ScreenRant, the show continues its tradition of focusing on a single Bridgerton cousin as the protagonist and following them throughout. This was almost set in stone by the debut season, which had Daphne Bridgerton as the leading character. Although born and bred in an affluent Regency era family, Benedict is somewhat of a maverick, and all he wants is to live his life on his own terms.

However, the trailer quickly stirs up the action when Benedict is smitten by a mysterious 'Lady in Silver' at a family ball. Benedict's perception of himself quickly undergoes a radical transformation, and now his only objective is to locate the lady who took his heart, whom he also describes as 'the most intriguing person he's ever met', as per Variety. In this search, he enlists the help of his sister Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie. The lady's identity is ultimately revealed, and it turns out to be the plebeian Sophie, played by Yerin Ha, who works for the imposing Araminta Gun and had snuck into the ballroom.

While depicting a romance beset with difficulties has been the hallmark of the Netflix show, this would be the first time that the series would take up a romance that is divided across class lines, Cinema Express reports. In doing so, 'Bridgerton' Season 4 will give a unique spin to the beloved Cinderella story. As showrunner Jess Brownell revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "We start with a character trope that we've seen a million times before, which is a maid who falls for someone above her station, but I think a lot of times in these classic Cinderella-like stories, Cinderella is a bit of a damsel in distress. And, in the case of Sophie Baek, she is no such thing. We get to watch a very headstrong young woman try to decide her fate for herself and pick up the courage to believe in and dream for a life greater than the one she currently has."

The trailer further announced the return of Queen Charlotte, Colin, Francesa, and Penelope. Several new faces have joined the cast, including Katie Leung, Isabella Wei, and Michelle Mao. The first four episodes of 'Bridgerton' Season 4 will be available on Netflix starting January 29, 2026. This would be followed by the second set of four episodes dropping on February 26, 2026.
