Ira Parker shares exciting update on Season 2 of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms': 'We’re cutting some...'
Earlier this year, viewers were invited back to the world of Westeros with HBO's latest offering, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.' George R. R. Martin has collaborated with Ira Parker on the series, which debuted on January 18 on HBO. The adventures of the hedge knight, Dunk, and his squire, Egg, are set to wrap up on February 22 and fans are already wondering about their future. As Season 1 draws to a close, showrunner Parker has given fans a glimpse into the progress of Season 2, which was renewed months before the Season 1 premiere.
During an interview with AV Club on February 18, showrunner Parker teased fans with news of Season 2 progress. “We’re now getting into The Sworn Sword, which is my favorite novella in many ways, with Rohanne Webber or the Red Widow, Ser Bennis, and Ser Eustace, who are these classic characters. I can’t say much but we have three absolutely brilliant actors coming in to do these roles. I’m excited. We are cutting some scenes together now, and the directors are seeing some of it, so it feels nice to see [Season 2] slowly come together,” he said.
A prequel to the epic fantasy series 'Game of Thrones,' the series centers on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, under Targaryen rule. Peter Claffey leads the series as Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tall, while Dexter Sol Ansell stars as his squire Aegohbo 'Egg' Targaryen. It is an adaptation of George R. R. Martin's 'Tales of Dunk and Egg' series of novellas, with the first season being based on The 'Hedge Knight.' The fantasy series takes place over 90 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones' and 72 years after the events of 'House of the Dragon.'
As Parker mentioned, the show's second season will adapt the second novella, 'The Sworn Sword,' leaving only the third novel, 'The Mystery Knight,' for future adaptation. The good news is that Martin intends to continue the world of Duncan and Egg. He has shared outlines for twelve unpublished Dunk and Egg stories with Parker, as he told The Hollywood Reporter on January 17, and the duo plans to develop the series beyond the third season. In the same interview, Parker outlined his long-term plans for the series by saying, "I would do 12 of these. I would do four now, then four more 10 years from now, and then four more 10 years after that." Sounds ambitious? But we expect nothing less from the creative force behind the fantasy series. Watch all episodes of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' only on HBO and HBO Max.
